Elks To Hold Flag Day Services Lordsburg

Lordsburg Elks Lodge No. 1813 invites the public to Flag Day services Sunday June 11 at 3 p.m. at the lodge east of Lordsburg directed by James H. Kinkema. A flag history address by Dr. James Latham and music by Mrs. Jeanne La Marca accompany a parade of flags with Veterans of Foreign Wars participating.

Summer Reading Program Starts Strong at Lordsburg Hidalgo Library

The Lordsburg Hidalgo Library reports a successful start with 122 children enrolled and 578 books checked out in the first week. Six weeks remain for enrollment and a Story Hour is held each Saturday at 10 30 a.m.

Outstanding Home Economics Student Ena Mae Wright Wins Crisco Trophy

Ena Mae Wright of Animas, daughter of Mr and Mrs Sidney Wright, received the Crisco Trophy at Animas High School awards day May 26. The junior and former Carnival Queen and Homecoming Queen has cheered and held class offices and plans to major in Home Economics in college.

Youths Caught In Breakin At Recreation Center

Three juvenile boys were jailed on 500 bond each after a Thursday night breakin at the Recreation Center on Railroad Ave. About 300 dollars in watches and jewelry were taken and 120 dollars damage occurred to fixtures and glass doors. Entry came through the roof and one youth fell onto a pool table before escaping. Police logged the report at 6 a.m. Friday and had the suspects by 7 a.m.

Fire restrictions eased in Gila National Forest

The Forest Service will issue open campfire permits forest wide starting Tuesday June 6 due to scattered showers. Permits available at District Ranger stations and the Forest Supervisor's Office in Silver City, continuing until fire weather indicates a drying trend.
