Frank C. Dieudonne traveling representative of the Peck Judah Company travel service bureau toured western towns and praised Lordsburg as the best town of its size in the west. He told Liberal representatives that Lordsburg is praised for cordial hospitality and frequent favorable remarks about the community.
Mayor Rosenstein and his guest Walter Kirschner a prominent manager of ladies shops entertained at the city home for a Sunday to Monday visit. Mrs Kirschner accompanied by a San Diego friend Ted Valley joined the trip. The event featured vocal solos by the mayor. Kirschner presented gifts to Secretary Holt for local hospitality.
Miss Agnes Jones a popular Deming teacher married Robert M Wellborn a highway department employee stationed in Lordsburg. The couple honeymooned in El Paso and plan to reside in Lordsburg at the Smith apartments. A welcome gathering followed their marriage.
Lordsburg bakery rolls out Mother Goose Jingles ads developed by the Baker's Review national publication. Residents are urged to support Campbell's to keep spend local and aid community upbuilding this week.
The Methodist Missionary Society will gather this afternoon at the home of Mrs. George P. Jeffus. Miss Flossie Johnson returns home from the University of Arizona. W. B. Cowper and Daniel Danagan visited from Animas this week.
Local business leaders hype a June 24 sports and trade day with horse and boy dog races led by Bailey Smith Newt Lester and Ralph Smith Bill Shellberg. Two girl teams captained by Geraldine James Kayola Wright will play squash ball and vie for a $10 prize. Balloon prizes after the ball game and an outdoor theater dance conclude the lineup.
George W. Woodward Jr and his wife Margaret Holt Woodward depart Lordsburg after buying the Lordsburg Liberal. He graduates from the University of Nebraska law department and will begin practice in Texas City. Neighbors and officials praise the couple as they pursue legal careers and community roles.
Telegram from State Tax Commission to County Treasurer Kerr states Senate Bill 144 is not subject to referendum and directs that its provisions be followed. Tax sale scheduled for June 12 as provided by the act.
The beloved wife of Mrs Sam Baldwin died at the family home near Aberdeen Peak Thursday morning. Funeral services are to be held today. Mr and Mrs O D Cowart arrived from Las Lunas where Cowart was project engineer on a road job. Mrs Cowart will stay with Lordsburg relatives with her grandmother Mrs Marshall. Fire Chief Eugene Montague Ronald Laundry and Mrs Catherine Burch attended the state firemen s meeting at Las Cruces this week. The next state meeting will be at Roswell.
At the June 7 meeting the Lordsburg Dairy Association decided no milk price rise for now despite higher feed costs. A committee was formed to study coupon book sales. Wholesale prices to retailers stay the same, with gallon or larger lots for regular delivered customers.
Contractor Dick Tatsch and workers began remodeling the Lordsburg Mercantile Drug Store on Wednesday. When finished a marble fountain will sit on the east side and a new east entrance will be added. A north south partition will be installed.
Leach and Leach, noted mining engineers, were on their usual weekly business trip on Wednesday.
Lordsburg Boy Scouts attend a three week summer camp in the White Mountains near Ruidoso New Mexico. The camp opens June with the El Paso area council supervising a program including woodcraft training and many outdoor activities. Fees run fifty cents per day plus extra for truck trips. Attendees from Lordsburg include Jimmie Cueto Towell Johnnie Jones Ray Lester and Harbor Heather with Cueto supervising over the weekend.
At the county commissioners meeting last Monday the budget auditor was announced to arrive Monday June 26. The session carried only routine business with no special actions reported.
Willard Be Holt celebrated his 73rd birthday on Sunday June 4. Mr and Mrs Sam P Fulton visited from Deming to join George W Woodward Jr and Frank Stevens who are occupying the Woodward home. Mrs L A and L E Bradberry and niece Gertrude Roberts visited relatives in Cliff and Santa Rita Monday and Tuesday.
Harlow H. Hyland outlined the hardship of veterans and dependents in New Mexico after benefit cuts. He cited cases including a $100 pension slashed to $20 and a veteran with six World War I battles losing $23 in pension. He warned that about 15 percent remain with reduced aid and a Conservative estimate shows 15 veterans families daily face disruption, costing the state millions in reduced purchasing power.
The Indoor-Outdoor Baseball League announces a four team season with a six week halves schedule, playoffs for half winners, all games on the lighted field near the high school, no admission, and player assessments due to team managers. Umpire Walter Silivan calls play tonight.
Mrs. Tona Jones of Clovis and Mrs. Edith Turner of Silver City headlined an official visit to Lordsburg Friday evening by the New Mexico O. F. S. grand officers. A dinner at the Grill and an Up-to-Date cafe banquet followed, with praise for Lordsburg hospitality from visiting grand officers.
The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a dance at the Palace Theatre on Saturday night June 10 starting at 9 pm. Admission for dancers 75 cents, men spectators fifty cents, ladies free. Music by The Swen. Mildred Howe visits relatives in Douglas Arizona.
The act suspends the requirement for $100 of annual labor or improvements on mining claims in the United States and Alaska for the 1932–1933 year. It excludes those exempt from federal income tax for 1932 and requires claimants to file a notice by July 1, 1933 to hold the claim under the act. Approved May 18, 1933.
