City officials retire 7,000 of bonded debt and plan another 1,000 bond. A sinking fund started earlier and bonds purchased around 850 per 1,000. Water allotment rises to 8,000 gallons monthly for summer use amid ample supply with new pump equipment.
On Thursday June 8 Harvey Stengele hosted a birthday gathering for his twelfth year with games and prizes. Mary Morris led the girls in first place and Melton Malone led the boys. Hannah MaeEwan earned the booby prize as guests enjoyed strawberry ice cream and cake.
Superintendent J. Ethan Wright announced Animas High School is now on the state accredited list for two years. The note credits Wright and the staff for the improvement and achievement reflected in the accreditation status.
A telegram from Mrs. John C. Greenway announces the marriage of Martha Monro Ferguson, daughter of Mrs. Greenway, to Charles Breasted, executive secretary of the Oriental Institute of Chicago, with Dr. James Breasted among the guests.

Primo Arviz o, long employed in Southern Pacific towns, died at his family home last Friday. He was buried from St James Catholic Church with Rev Father Power officiating. He leaves his widow, nine children, and a large circle of friends.
Smoky Collins just back from New Jersey says business is improving in the East. He notes an upward trend in stocks and metals and reports a general sense of optimism returning to normal times.
Gar rett and Ollie Arbelbide, former Lordsburg lads and grandsons of Dr and Mrs J G Egan, gain national prestige with Garrett chosen to represent the West at the World's Pair in Chicago and defend western athletic supremacy. Garrett coaches in California. Ollie stars at Washington State University with frequent newspaper mention. Relatives and local guests noted with visits and travel plans to Amarillo.
The Cloverdale Home Demonstration Club met at Mrs. Henry Fichs home to discuss How to Gain and How to Reduce with saniety a key topic. Members completed sewing and embroidery projects including a felt skirt a table cover and an embroidered spread. several patterns like gloves were cut. Refreshments were served by the hostess to a group of ladies and Miss Edna Wickham a Douglas house guest.
D J Comyer, who held a large acreage here for oil development and signed leases for a first well at Muir Ranch, took his own life Tuesday in Pacific Palisades Apartments Los Angeles. His wife’s attempted intervention left her with a slight wound.
The Animas high school hosted a Home Demonstration Meeting in the afternoon. The program focused on personal charm including shoes, hair care, and fashion patterns while refreshments were served to a group of women and 4-H Club girls.
The law, covering chapters 148 and 149 of 1933, restricts women in industrial and mercantile fields to eight hours per day and 48 per week, with hospitals and nurses exempt. It also sets penalties of 75 to 300 dollars for violations and allows limited overtime in emergencies.
Mr and Mrs John Y Waldrop hosted Miss Margaret Young during a weekend visit in Roswell with plans for a summer stay.

The Tuesday night bridge club gathered at Mrs. Walter Boswell’s home with present members Mesdams Olney Martin Townend Graham Smith Ed Clark Weldon and the hostess. Guests included Mesdames Luckie Eppstein Clark Jones. Mrs. Graham won high score as Whippled jello cake cookies and punch were served.
Mrs. Alice Casper returned from Rodeo where she taught school the past term and now resides at home in the Marble apartments. Mr. and Mrs. John Curry of Anim as were business visitors Tuesday.
Frank Chaves develops a local soft drink business using Lordsburg 99.9 water. Six julep flavors are produced and sold in Lordsburg and nearby towns, plus Howell's Root Beer and other beverages. The plant expansion repurposes the old general store building to meet rising demand.
County treasurer Larre Kerr opened delinquent tax sales at the Court House with few bids, mostly from property holders seeking clear titles. Sales paused Tuesday awaiting Judge Hay's decision in Las Cruces. DA Hodges urged resuming with protests over the 4 percent interest if the pending legal challenge invalidates the law. More than percent of taxes already collected.
Lively sport events include horse grooming and dogs and boys practicing for entertainment. Girls baseball teams led by Captain Kayela Wright and Captain Geraldine Jones clash for a cash prize. After field events, balloons with merchant prizes will be released. A Palace Theater dance follows with Leo Cohen directing an orchestra. Tickets are $1 plus ten cents tax.
Claude Woods visited Silver City last Saturday as a business traveler. Sergeant A J Halmstrand returns from Nashville Tennessee. Mrs J K Vinson visited El Paso this week. Mr and Mrs EB Jones toured Ruidoso yesterday. Mrs C P Austin and daughter Pauline arrived from Berkeley California where Pauline studied. Myron Fowler is in El Paso this week. Miss Gertrude Wright of Animas visits Mrs Eva Marshall. R J McTavern and niece Lottie Smith from Franklin pass through Lordsburg en route to Hot Springs. Judge and Mrs Sanford come from Cloverdale. Ed Lewis returns from St Louis where he studied dentistry the past year. Billy Lewis comes back from Roswell after attending school the last term.
Senator Lee Brown Atwood is in Santa Fe today attending a meeting of the Democratic State Central Committee. W. J. Barker has resigned to become U S District Attorney. Louie Lee of Tucumcari visited with his family this week. Rev and Mrs S M Mites and family returned from the Summer Assembly at Weeds. Judge George W Hay and District Attorney Joe Hodges were here on court business Wednesday. A letter from the Ruidoso Camp says seventy seven boys attend. T E Hall and Dr K R Buvers were weekend fishermen on White Water creek.
Charley Powers A L Conmer and Jack Kerr spent the weekend fishing in the Mogollon mountains. A big dance is planned at the Paace Theatre on Saturday June 2.
State Engineer George M. Neel and engineer Powell visited last week to inspect irrigation at the experiment farm operated by Wood, Hi, Strickland, Dunlap, and Lee. They praised the work and noted statewide irrigation districts are hampered by chilly weather and spring winds.
Coach and Mrs. Mhrhardt with Vir ginia and Stephen Walter and Judth Birchfield depart yesterday for a summer vacation to visit relatives in Kansas. On return they will tour Colorado Springs and other Colorado locations.
Frank McGrath of San Francisco reports the death of RE Armtrong of Liver City a well known local figure. He leaves his wife Rose Mary Armstrone.
Judge J. N. Sanford arrived from Cloverdale with two nephews Robert and Newman Sanford of Elbow Lake Minnesota to spend the summer at Sanford Ranch near Cloverdale. Robert just finished high school and received a graduation trip to New Mexico as a gift from his father.
The Woman's Club holds its annual luncheon at Hidalgo Grill at 1 p.m. on Monday June 19. Those wishing to attend should notify Mrs. Banke Austin or Mrs. Eddie Allen.
Records from Sheriff Charles A. Conner show forty six erveys handled since January first with eleven sentenced to the penitentiary by the District Court and five given suspended sentences. Other cases proceed through District or Justice Courts and several await disposition in regular order.
Pete Chase left Thursday for Denver to enter the College of Pharmacy for a three months course. He has already completed three years in chemistry and years of practical experience. This program aims to place him on the top row. Steve Dunagan and son David of Aramas visited Town Monday. J. T. Austin, Margaret Greem, Mrs. Effie Bass and Mrs. Home Brooks attend school in Silver City.
