Three Lordsburg students from New Mexico State University Las Cruces earned degrees in the spring ending June 1 Arturo Gandara Myron Weckworth and Gary Whitmore received Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Education and Science respectively. Commencement at Memorial Stadium featured Robert O Anderson chair Atlantic Richfield Co as speaker and honorary degrees for Peter Hurd and Erle Stanley Gardner. Class of 1968 included graduates from 27 foreign countries 44 states and all New Mexico.

Beginning Band Members Meeting To Be Held

A meeting for beginning band students and parents of fifth graders is set for tonight at 7 30 in the high school band room. An instrument display by the Music Box of Las Cruces will assist buyers with new and reconditioned instruments. The program begins Monday June 10 at 9 am in the band room and the summer band for sixth graders starts Tuesday June 11. Students should bring their registration fee.

Mrs E L Ely is appointed Fiesta Month chairman as Governor Cargo declares August Fiesta Month to promote tourism. A statewide committee led by Mrs Dan Ely of Albuquerque will publicize events with local committees headed by Mrs Edgar L Ely. Pool Closure Amid National Mourning for Senator Kennedy

The swimming pool will be closed Sunday as a day of mourning declared by President Johnson in respect to the death of Senator Robert Kennedy.

Scholarships Awarded To 10 LHS Graduates

At Lordsburg High School commencement 74 graduates received diplomas. Debra Kirby won a 150 from Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and a 100 from Knights of Pythias. Andrew Gonzales Barbara Hoggett Manuel Montoya won 150 each from LULAC. Carlos Marin earned 100 Lions Club and 100 Future Teachers of America. Martha Valdez received 100 from PTA and aid from NM State University Teacher Co op. Lou Ann Morgan 50 from Delta Kappa Gamma. Epifania Madrid Future Nurses. Mia Morgan and Douglas Bowers also received NM US and Western New Mexico University scholarships respectively.

Spring Dance Theatre Presented by Janaloo and Rita Hill

Students of Janaloo and Rita Hill present a Spring Dance Theatre on Saturday June 8 at 8 p.m. in the cafetorium. Admission costs 50 cents for adults and 15 cents for children. Proceeds go to janitor fees and to support students attending Dallas dance caravan classes next month.

Principal R. V. Traylor announces Lordsburg Elementary summer sessions starting June 10. Remedial math English and reading for students needing help with emphasis on reading. program includes non English speaking beginners. Seven teachers from Lordsburg staff run June 10 to July 26, funded by ESEA Title I with no charge.

Fire completely destroyed a vacant house owned by Manuel Renteria on C Street Tuesday. Local firefighters contained the blaze with no injuries reported.

Mayor Cuts Off Sheriff's Radio Transmitter

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office reports Mayor Alan Koff ordered removal of the city sheriff radio link. State police will provide a transmitter to restore emergency communications, with installations expected next week as patrol cars handle calls and a Silver City relay via the intercity network in the interim.

LULAC Scholarships Awarded to Three Students

LULAC scholarships of 150 dollars each were presented to Andy Menuel Montoya at the 1968 U U. I. S. commencement exercises. Assault witness not city councilman correction issued

The Liberal clarifies that Eddie Diaz listed as the assault complainant is not Edward A. Diaz the city councilman. The paper regrets any embarrassment caused by the misidentification and notes the name entry on court records was limited but remains unaltered.

A beginners and advanced beginners course starts Tuesday June 11 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the pool. Registration is during open hours. The two week course costs 5. An adult swim class begins Monday night June 17. The Lordsburg Swim Team invites interested residents.
