The Interstate Commerce Commission cleared DRG&W trackage abandonment while Santa Fe film promoter Patton reports a wave of high budget productions moving to New Mexico. Universal, Twentieth Century Fox and Paramount plan up to 3.5 million dollars in railroad scenes with Patton supplying locations and crews for Animal Talk and other projects.

VFW and Elks shine in lively Little League action
Dave Flores delivered a clutch last inning base hit as the VFW edged Miller Chevy 4-3 after Miller Chevy led 3-1. Jaime Alvarez scored the tying run and Flores drove in the winner. The VFW also beat the K P s 7-5 with Fd Esquivel homering. The Elks swept Miller Chevy and Knights of Pythias 5-1, and First National Bank 14-2, with Guzman hitting a 2‑for‑2 line and Manny Diaz adding a three‑run homer in the win.

Plans For July Fourth Celebration Being Made
The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce and City Recreation Department plan a joint Fourth of July event starting at 10 am at the city pool with the swim team hosting the first Lordsburg Invitational Meet. A Bar-B-Q sponsored by the chamber follows near the slab. Little League games begin at 6 30 pm and end around 9 15 pm. A fireworks show will light the sky after the ball games and a slab dance is being planned after the fireworks.

AAA Urges Congress to Limit Heavier Trucks and Big Rig Size
The American Automobile Association urged Congress to cap truck size and weight, warning larger rigs raise highway maintenance costs and threaten bridges. In testimony to the House Public Works Committee subcommittee, AAA Executive VP George F. Kachlein Jr. said bridges are the weak link and many roads are too narrow for 102 inch wide trucks. He noted 60 percent of road miles are on state primary systems with lanes under twelve feet, hindering wider loads.

The City Council passed an ordinance establishing the Lordsburg Public Library with a seven member board appointed by the mayor. The city will budget 3100 for operation and seek up to 700 state funds. Transfer of Grazing Privileges Filed in New Mexico
