District Court in Lordsburg Hears Minor Criminal and Civil Motions
District Judge George W. Hay held a brief Lordsburg session on Wednesday. Cruz Rodriguez pleaded guilty to beating his wife and received a 60 day sentence with good behavior credit for about 45 days served. First National Bank secured judgment on a promissory note, another civil action was dismissed on motion. Judge Hay was accompanied by District Attorney Joseph W. Hodges and Court Reporter Mary Steinberger. The party then departed for Deming to hold court in Luna County.

Lordsburg Airport Hosts Anti Aircraft Unit Demonstration
The 63rd Coast Artillery Anti Aircraft unit passed through Lordsburg on a tour to Socorro for six days from June 9. Captain Roy and 20 soldiers showcased searchlights with eight hundred million candle power, anti aircraft guns, and power units while locals observed. Colonel Sage plans eight auto aircraft batteries across New Mexico with 12 guns each and 15 searchlights, under National Guard coordination.

Nazarene Church Fire Destroys Rear Quarters
A rear addition of the Church of the Nazarene at Seventh and Shakespeare burned in the early hours Thursday. The fire started around 12:30 A.M. from an oil burner, destroying two-room dwelling quarters. H. F. Scofield reported the blaze. Lordsburg Fire Department contained it with minor damage to the main church. Personal effects of Rev. Calhoun and wife were lost except two tables saved.
