New NM Laws Take Effect June 10 1949
New Mexico enacts 39 emergency measures and many ordinary laws as of June 10. Cigarette taxes rise one cent per pack. gasoline tax climbs to seven cents per gallon to fund highway debt. New boards arise, pay for public officials increases, and the state expands agencies including alcoholism, plumbing, oil conservation, and social protections. Los Alamos county also born.
