Estrada, valedictorian of the 1649 graduating class, served as class leader during his year. He was a member of the basketball team in his junior and senior years, joined the Club in his late year, and served on the Annual Staff.
Miss Powell is identified as salutatorian of the 1949 class at Lords High School. She served four terms on student council as a junior and held roles including annual staff secretary and class secretary during her senior year and appeared in school play.

Miss Rosilee Robeson, senior of the class of 49, earns the fifty dollar scholarship offered by the local Business and Professional Woman's club. She was chosen for high scholastic standing, character, citizenship, need, and activities, and will enroll in an accredited college in the fall.
The schedule lists availability on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 5 o'clock in the afternoon.
Rev. David Moore led the Baccalaureate services for the 1949 graduating class held Sunday evening in the high school auditorium. The program featured processional and recessional pieces, scripture readings, and musical selections by a brass sextet and other students.
Lordsburg merchants announce closures on Memorial Day Monday May 30 in observance as announced by the Chamber of Commerce.
The Lordsburg high school annuals were passed out on Tuesday with The Maverick titled yearbook printed by The Liberal. It claims to be the first entirely photographed and printed Lordsburg yearbook, produced by editor Marline Pierce and a staff including Patsy Powell and Joan Brown among others.
El Paso Herald-Post editor E. M. Pooley spoke to the Zone Social of the Lions at the American Legion Hall on Monday. He warned against complacency toward Communism, noting Berlin gains by the Russians contrasted with China and urging vigilance at home and abroad. Deputy Governor Ivan Johnson and Zone Chairman Martin Windhomer shared short remarks. The German Band from the high school performed, the Legion and Auxiliary served the meal, and George Harding presided as toastmaster.
The Robert Swan Post No. 30 American Legion sponsors a public bingo party at the Legion hall on Saturday evening May 28. Games begin at 8 p m with prizes including a radio and other rewards. The public is invited.
As st art editor Johnson and Miss Esther Landreth sponsor did a wonderful job preparing the material for the annual. Students appreciate their efforts and support.
New Mexico A M College dean William B O Donnell spoke at the Lordsburg high school graduation on May 26 as 27 seniors received diplomas. Valedictory by Javier Estrada salutatory by Patricia Powell with awards presented by Roy Melugin.
The Bat tery C 716th AAA Gun Battalion invites the public to two war films Appointment in Tokyo and Invasion of France on Memorial Day May 30 1949 at 8 p m on the City Hall lot. An all day exhibit with weapons and equipment guides will be open.
Milton Tinnel moved from Willcox Arizona to Prine and is now employed as a mechanic at Prine Motor Co. He brings considerable training in automobile repair. Curtis Mayfield, expert wash and polish man, has also joined Prine Company.
