Legion Boxing Tourney Draws Large Crowd
The American Legion Amateur meet on June 3 drew a large crowd as boxers battled for titles. Zamaripo Gutierrez fight halted in round one after a head cut, while Oscar Turrentine edged Inocension Ruiz in a close middleweight title bout. Danny Ren stopped John Harvell in the first, and Martin Arambula captured the weight title from Fred Man in the rounds. No knockouts occurred and several bouts went the distance with strong sportsmanship.

Harold Bishop was elected commander of Robert Swan Post No. 30 American Legion at the annual meeting held Wednesday evening. Girl Scout Cookie Sale Funds Camp Trip Plans
The cookie sale last Friday raised over 20 dollars for the troop treasury. Three members will travel to Santa Rita next Monday for a week at Girl Scout Camp, accompanied by Mrs. Wesley Freeburg. Graduates Tour Grand Canyon and Nearby Wonders
A group of graduates led by Rosilee Robeson embarked Thursday morning on a two car trip with eight people including Mrs. Wesley Free George Jeffus Patsy Powell and Al Johnson. They visited Alpine the Forest Painted Desert Petrified Forest Meteor Crater near Winslow and Flagstaff where they spent their first night. The journey featured learning about ancient trees and minerals forming the painted hills and concluded with campus drive in Flagstaff.

A Tucson Chamber of Commerce delegation led by the Tucson mayor arrived in Lordsburg by five airplanes for a goodwill visit. Concert Orchestra To Be Organized
The summer music program enrolls about one hundred students with thirty five in brass woodwind and strings. A small concert orchestra will be formed to perform music beyond the band repertoire. Advanced concert and marching bands will be stronger by fall for football season. Students missing rehearsals are urged to join to avoid lagging behind.
Lordsburg Council Hears highway routing and phone rate protest
The Lordsburg city council votes to invite State Highway Engineer Burton Dwyre to discuss keeping the highway on its present route through town. The council also protests a proposed telephone rate increase and plans to meet with Corporation Commissioner Ingram Pickett at the hearing.
