Awards Given At School Assembly At Lordsburg High

At the Lordsburg High School awards assembly on May 23 the Student Council awarded forty five scholarships across class levels. Recipients include seniors Concha Arredondo Richard Atkinson Freda Busselle Arturo Gandara Fiona Gay Cleo Gonzales Paul Huna Katherine Jones Mimi Lehman Sharon Poindexter Buddy Richins Norma Rivera Ray Rodriguez Mareen Whitmore Barbara Woody juniors Carolyn Allen Jill Bowman Stephanie Chase Lewis Conner Nell Fuller Richard McCarty Calvin Powell David Ragland Dewey Reay Sammy Sandlin Rita Smith sophomores Mary Austin Patty Badgett Alicia Jo Baird Don Black James Payne freshmen Beverley Altuna Jackie Anderson Tommie Anderson Ernie Austin Nancy Bowman Janell Dunagan Olga Gandara Johnny Harper Jeanne Hill David Lehman Steven McGhee Tonya Reay Lenora Wright Parlee Wright. The awards recognize scholarship with at least a B average and mark the first year of a yearly presentation. Perfect attendance prizes went to Arturo Gandara Olga Gandara Janet McGhee Eloisa Madrid and Carl Odom. Two year prefects to Jimmy Arredondo Alicia Jo Baird Irene Diaz Dora Montano Salvador Roales. One year awards to Lewis Conner Jesus Martinez Steven McGhee Berna Ozeta Ronald Stiles Raynaldo Varela Charles Walter Lenora Wright. Outstanding student awards were given by Mr. McAlister for academics and tests to listed students across subjects. Beth Lytle and Gordon Clifford received additional honors. Athletic awards covered many football players including Robert Comancho Ray Rodriguez Paul Sandoval Rudy Arambula Ramon Sanchez Frankie Estrada and others.

Reversal of Decision Favors Bill Veck

Regional Director John E. Gross of the Labor Bureau in Denver announced reversal of a prior disqualification of Bill Veck of Animas New Mexico as a Mexican national labor user. The action, linked to Migrant Labor Agreement violations, restored the association but kept Veck disqualified after an appeal escalated to the Bureau Administrator.

Moore Ousted As Police Chief Replaced By Lytle

Eugene F. Moore was removed as acting police chief effective May 26 and Lt. Claude Lytle was appointed in his place. Mayor Harber Heather cited political reasons. Lytle had broad council support and four years with the city. Patrolman DeLaGarza was discharged. Diaz and Stiles were hired as patrolmen. Lara was promoted to lieutenant.

Council Approves Tentative Budget for 1962-63

City Council, in a special meeting last Friday evening, approves a tentative 1962-63 budget of 742 400, down 21 779 from 764 579 in 1961-62. Discussion covers unfinished municipal building on Main Street and a bond refinancing proposal rejected after staff notes double indebtedness.

Two Morning Services At Methodist Church

The Rev. W. C. Strickland announces two morning worship services at the Methodist Church starting Sunday June 3. The 6 30 and 11 00 oclock services will be identical with Church School at 9 45 for tourist families and local members attending cuttings after early services.

Seniors Donate Funds to Aid Boys State Expenses

The graduating class of 62 donated remaining senior funds to the American Legion to defray Boys State expenses. The Legion expressed gratitude for the generosity and support.

Recreation Schedule Starts June 4th

Daily summer recreation schedule begins June 4 with sessions for ages 10 to 15 across boys and girls sports. Weekly lineup includes basketball volleyball softball badminton table tennis and mixed activities with times from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and repeats through Friday June 8.
