National Guard wins both games to tighten the chase with Poco for league lead as Hatch, CPS, and Mines jockey for positions. CPS beats Hatch 4 0 in a pitcher duel and CPS takes a 5 run third inning surge before Poco battles back to a 7 3 loss as the week reshapes the standings.
City of Lordsburg issues a delinquent account warning by mail due to staff shortages. If unpaid by noon on the 13th of the following month after due, water or gas services may be shut off without further notice and restored only after full payment plus turn on fee. A Santa Fe priest and historian explains in New Mexico Magazine that the name New Mexico predates Mexico and arose from Spanish explorers who dubbed the northern land La Nueva Mexico. The term stuck despite other attempted names and later shifts in political status, with locals long calling the territory the kingdom despite its wealth not materializing.

Continental Trailways announces a new thru bus service between Memphis and the West Coast beginning August 1. Mrs. C. C. Martin spent Thursday to Saturday in El Paso. She stayed Thursday night with her daughter and family in Anthony before continuing travel to shop in El Paso.
Harold Wells shift foreman at Banner Mines was struck in the throat by a wild throw while playing softball against Hatch. He suffered a painful bruise, but the injury was not serious and he is reported much improved.
New Mexico posted a strong forest protection record in 1952 with 556 fires burning 1 885 acres, far better than 1951. Of 556 fires, all but 28 stayed under 10 acres and 375 fires were under a quarter acre. Lightning caused 472 fires. smokers and careless campfires each started 30.

Judge Gale reports his son Orville called from Shreveport to say the family has landed in New York Monday and are driving home via the Liberal office Thursday. They have spent three years in England and expect to be home by Saturday this week.
A golf committee calls all members to attend a meeting at City Hall Tuesday August 4 at 7 40 P M. All members urged to be present for official business.
