Stickers Be Good Extended Inspection Dates Announced

Virden Man Dies in Likely Accidental Rifle Incident
Joseph Holmes Smith a 49 year old resident of near Virden New Mexico died from an apparently accidental 30 30 rifle discharge while crawling through a fence on the Dee Payne farm northwest of Virden The body was found Sunday afternoon by Mrs Payne and the Hi Dalgo County Sheriff's Department investigated noting the wound and position supported an accidental discharge His wife was in Safford at the time funeral services will be held in Safford Arizona.

Accident Kills Emmett Davis at Steins
A crane brake failure on Southern Pacific tracks at Steins caused the death of Emmett Carl Davis, a Steins section foreman. While loading a rail the boom pinned him to a car standard, he died after an ambulance brought remains to Lordsburg. Davis, born in Seeley, had been seriously injured en route to Tucson.

Two Car Collision Injures Nine West of Town on Highway 70
A head on crash on Highway 70 about 20 miles west of town injured nine people, three seriously. J W Coburn of Clifton Arizona, driving a 1946 Chevrolet on the wrong side, collided with Harry J Ammerman of Austin Texas in a 1950 security. Coburn and his wife Florine were seriously hurt. Ammerman was among the seriously injured. All occupants were hospitalized.

Hidalgo County residents bought 3 54 75 in Series E and H U S Savings Bonds during June. The June total for Hidalgo was 17 737 50, with May at 5 175. Statewide sales reached 942 439 up 73.6 percent from June last year. Nationwide E and H bonds totaled 340 million, up 16 percent from June 1951. Bonds yield a fixed 3 1 3 percent if held to maturity.
