Lordsburg High School football coach Jerry Reyes announces weeknight conditioning sessions at Maverick Gym from Monday to Friday at 7 pm for interested players and junior high prospects. All players must report August 2 at 7 pm for physicals. forms are available from Reyes on school weekdays.
At a July 25 meeting Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber President Bill Collins told the board the city can no longer provide Lodger's Tax funds. A July 21 letter from Mayor Alan Koff stated the ledger tax funds cannot be disbursed to the chamber due to a law change effective July 1 1977. Collins said inquiries across the state followed this notice.
Five years after the 2.5 million gallon Lordsburg water tank exploded or vanished observers still seek the cause. Theories range from dynamite to structural defects whileOfficials face legal actions with no conclusive finding. The night of July 31 remains a defining, unsolved event in Lordsburg.
New Mexico Attorney General Toney Anaya announced a partial settlement in State v. Joseph S. Agers and others, involving 28 defendants and about 3,840 acres in Hidalgo County. The deal, accepted by the court, will return over $50,000 to Hidalgo subdivision purchasers and may offer options including rebates, deeds, or reduced-price purchases for affected buyers.
The Chamber of Commerce seeks a report on dog attacks after two elderly women, Pearl Gauthier and Ruth Harding, were bitten while walking. It asks residents to report any menacing incidents by dogs running at large in the past year by calling 542-9864.
