Oil Pipeline Across New Mexico Approved By Interior
Secretay Cecil D Andrus approved a right of way for a 1026 mile crude oil pipeline crossing New Mexico as part of a 238 mile new line from California to Texas. The SOHIO project will move about 500000 barrels per day and link Long Beach to Midland, with most New Mexico segments on the El Paso Natural Gas system.

Escape attempt at Lordsburg jail ends in scuffle

Local Officers Recover Three Stolen Vehicles
Lordsburg police and New Mexico State Police recovered three stolen cars between July 21 and July 28. Clyde W. Storey, 54, of Superior Arizona, was arrested and later turned over to Arizona authorities after driving a 1971 Ambassador stolen from Wilcox Arizona. Michael Petrea, 18, Dallas, and Raymond Barton, 20, Fort Worth, Texas, were held for extradition after falsely obtaining services. A stolen 1978 pickup from Truth or Consequences was found abandoned on I 10 and towed in for owner pickup.
