League officials Adopt Rules To Speed Up Softball Games
Meeting of softball officials last Monday May 13 adopted rules to speed play and keep games on time. Players managers and umpires must be present by 7 45 p m. Games start at 8 00 p m and each team must have a lineup ready. Teams not ready at 7 45 may forfeit. home team to keep infield from 6 00 p m. Umpire to start play on second game and teams get five minutes infield time after the first game. Time kept to record. forfeits apply if delays persist. Visiting team to clear the infield by 7 55 and umpire calls for play at 8 00.
Scouts Leave Jamboree Thursday
Yucca Council of the Boy Scouts of America chartered Greyhound buses to transport about 140 scouts from El Paso Cruces Hurley Santa Rita and nearby towns to a local event. Boys Jimmy Baxter Sonny Richards Call Eddie Broun and others rode in khaki and green uniforms, enjoying the journey toward the third National act planned at Capistrano Saliernia.

Miss Margaret Richards daughter of Mr and Mrs A A Richards was installed as Grand Drill Leader of the Grand Assembly of the Order of Rainbow for Girls in Clovis at the Grand Assembly session presided by Grand Worthy Advisor Wiss Della Ruth Frear. Richards previously served as Past Worthy Advisor of Lordsburg Assembly and has been active in Rainbow functions and school music.

Library Board Elects Officers At Regular Meeting
Lordsburg Hidalgo Library board elected officers at the annual meeting on July 8. President Mrs Claude C Fuller and Secretary ate P M Ewing were chosen, with Mrs ertrea surey, Mrs Johnson as librarian, and G Lynn Hatch, Felix Gauthier, and Buford Martin named representatives. A vacancy exists at Virden. Reports praised progress. new American Encyclopedia and Hammond World Atlas added. library holds nearly 7 000 volumes and 23 periodicals.

Large Attendance At Scout Gathering At Camp Thunderbird
The Hidalgo and Grant County Girl Scouts and Brownies total 127 attending Camp Thunderbird this summer. Seventy nine Scouts and forty eight Brownies were present with ribbons awarded to many for six or more ribbons and honor camper status. Hikes to an India ruins site were part of the schedule. Saturday ended with a Scout's Own and awards campfire guiding wishes for next year.

Grand Rainbow Assembly Honors Local Girl
Misa Petty Bradford daughter of Captain and Mrs J R Bradford attended the New Mexico Rainbow Girls Grand Assembly in Clovis on June 18 19 and 20. She received the appointment as Grand Representative to the Grand Assembly of Maryland and has served as Past Worthy Adviser for Lordsburg Assembly and as Recorder in 1953.

Truck Collision Causes Serious Injury To Woman
New Mexico State Police report three traffic accidents for the week. The most serious occurred on Highway 70 and 80 thirteen miles east of Lordsburg on Tuesday morning July 14 when two transport trucks collided head on. A woman sustained serious injuries while the drivers and others had lesser injuries. The Reynolds banana truck struck the Texas and Arizona truck, trapping Sally Kate Pork, 49, and her husband C. C. Polk, 49, in the cab. rescue crews freed them after the crash helped by arriving motorists.

Hatch Loses Game Still Holds Lead In Softball Race
Lordsburg fans saw a busy weekend with eight softball games including league and special matches. July 8 featured Banner Mines vs CPS where Alvarez pitched Banner to a 10 run win on five hits while CPS pitcher Nole allowed 10 runs. In the second game the National Guard pressed Hatch as they scored in the first inning before the night ended.
