Vericks Win Row in Little League Action

Week of July 12 saw Lumber and Slicks Goods in Little League and League play. CPS edged LULAC 10 to 0 in a long game. Slicks defeated the Sheriff 13-2 in four innings. Bishop Lumber beat Banner Miners 6-4. Mavericks won again 2-1. Scofield topped Bishop Lumber 13-0 as rain shortened late games.

Hidalgo County Junior Rodeo Dates Set for July 28 29

The Hidalgo County Junior Rodeo set for July 28 at 7 30 p m and July 29 at 2 p m will be held at the county fairgrounds in Lordsburg. Explosion Injures Worker at Granite Wells Site

Eddie Leon Bryant was hospitalized after an explosion while pulling well pipe at Granite Wells service station near Lordsburg. The blast, caused by gas from acidized pipe, burned his face and eyes. his stepfather Carl Boyd assisted. Officials Joe Ortega and Leroy McCarty led the investigation with photos by Jesse Austin.

Douglas radio station KAPR will celebrate Lordsburg with Lordsburg Day on Monday July 25. The Lordsburg-Hidalgo Chamber and Douglas Chamber cooperate to feature stories about Lordsburg and its history and to plug the city and its businesses.

Donkey Softball Night Presented by Lordsburg Fire Dept

Local players will play softball on donkeys Saturday night at 8 at the high school stadium. Pitcher and catcher stay on ground in marked boxes. No strikeouts or walks. Runners mount donkeys to run bases and outs are made by tagging the rider with the ball. A donkey race follows with prizes donated by area merchants.

Suspended sentence in assault with deadly weapon case

Rudy Corralejo pleaded guilty in justice court to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill Butch Busselle at Jenkins Enco on East Railroad Ave. He was bound over to district court and given a one year suspended sentence by District Judge A Vearle Payne after Busselle said he did not know Corralejo.

Car Crashes Into Motel Injuring 3 Youths

Three local youths were hospitalized after the car they rode in crashed into a Holiday Motel unit on Randall Street near Second Street around 5 40 p.m. Driver Robert Santa Rosa Gomez 16 and passengers Joe Lopez Figueroa 16 Augustine Bejarano 14 were not seriously hurt. The car was a total loss and motel damage was estimated at $5000. Police plan charges against Gomez for reckless driving speeding and faulty equipment. The car reportedly had bad brakes.
