A meeting for all Little Cadykue parents and coaches is planned at the Bayard youth center on Friday the 16th at 8 pm. Umpires district supervisor will attend and address concerns about the board of directors and coaches.
Lordsburg welcomes Saucedo family with Friday grand opening of Los Arcos Gift Shoppe and S H Green Stamp Redemption Center at 716 S Main. The gift shop offers greeting cards, figurines, brass ware, stationery, watches, and more with mail order for items not in stock. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. daily except Sunday.
Hidalgo County deputies chase two suspects in a gas theft near Lordsburg. Bobby Matthews, 31, captured after a car pursuit and a jail escape during booking. He allegedly attacked a jailer, fled through the building, and may have boarded a freight train. charges include kidnapping aggravated assault burglary larceny and escape from jail.
The Farmers Home Administration increases income limits for above moderate income rural home ownership loan guarantees from 20000 to 30000 in the 48 contiguous states and to 40000 in Hawaii and Guam and 50000 in Alaska. Drew Cloud says the change expands credit for single family rural housing. The measure takes effect immediately and will be published in the Federal Register on June 20 with a 60 day comment period.
Former candidate Jose V Morales was found guilty of electioneering within 100 feet of a polling site. Prosecutor Manuel Saucedo cited reaffirmed warnings by Dan Harris, with witness testimony from Betty Lazar and Rodolfo Ramirez. Morales faced a $10 court cost and fine. a second similar citation remains pending.
The New Mexico State Police Department assigned two patrolmen to Hidalgo County under the Deming State Police Office. Roger Payne, a former Lordsburg resident, and David Martinez, a Hot Springs High School graduate and Marine Corps veteran, will work from Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. Payne has three children. Martinez and his wife Cathy have a five month old daughter.
Three desert bighorn sheep from the San Andres herd were found dead at Red Rock Experimental Wildlife Station likely from poisonous plants or related illness. Two ewes are missing and presumed dead. a lamb euthanized after breaking a leg. Tests suggested possible plant toxins near corrals. The herd, part of a scabies eradication effort, faces endangered status with fewer than 50 free-ranging animals in two NM ranges.
