Funds earmarked for city recreation by Jerry Walz

Lordsburg residents may receive county funding for summer recreation facilities. The Hidalgo County commissioners budgeted 26000 in revenue sharing for recreational capital outlay in Lordsburg. Mayor Ted White proposed a tennis court and multi purpose concrete slabs, with a joint powers agreement to govern the funds and procedures.

Animas District Mulls 2.8 Million Bond Plan

Registration deadline July 22 sets stage for Animas School District to seek a 2.8 million general obligation bond. If approved, bonds are to be paid off in eight years to fund expansion including nine new high school classrooms, a cafeteria commons complex, home economics and arts rooms, a vocational building, and road and fence improvements. Growth projections push enrollment from 470 last year to about 625, boosting capacity to 900–1000 students.

Senator Domenici to Speak in Lordsburg

Senator Pete Domenici will visit Lordsburg on Wednesday August 6 with an informal reception at El Charro Restaurant at 7 30 p m. A dutch treat buffet luncheon precedes his address. He hopes to renew acquaintances in Hidalgo County after returning from a trip to Russia. The luncheon, under the Chamber of Commerce, is open to the public.

Youngsters Ordered Home After 10 30 P M Curfew Enforced

Lordsburg police will enforce ordinance 3471 curbing juveniles under 18 out after 10 30 p m without guardians cited into juvenile court. Commissioner Danny Gomez announced tougher curfew amid summer vandalism and burglaries. Littering in city limits will also be cited.

Lordsburg Woman Dies in Home at Age 47

Eileen McHalffey of Lordsburg was found dead Tuesday in her home. She was 47, wife of Garland McHalffey, Lordsburg City Maintenance Supervisor. Exact cause of death is unknown and funeral services are pending.

Thefts and Vandalism Hit Lordsburg District

The Lordsburg City Police log shows a heavy week of thefts and vandalism. On July 9 a .357 magnum was stolen from Mel's Sports Hut on Railroad Avenue and a tape player vanished from a home at 101 East Fourth Street. The next day a broken window at Western Auto Store led to the loss of a stereo and speakers valued at $199. Vandalism was also reported, with more details continued on page 8.
