Playas Area Voter Precinct Approved by Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County Commissioners approved a new voting precinct to serve Playas, U Bar Ranch, and Windmill Estates residents in the extreme southern part of the county. The decision was made in regular session Monday evening to reduce travel for future elections.

The Lordsburg Board of Education approved a student attendance agreement with Duncan at their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday night. The pact outlines shared policies and obligations for student enrollment and participation across the two districts.

Las Cruces man charged in Hidalgo cattle rustling

James Weber, 24, of Las Cruces, was arrested June 30 by the Hidalgo County Sheriff after an investigation tied him to a cattle rustling incident near Cotton City on June 28. He faced larceny of livestock charges and was released on a 10 percent bond after arraignment before Magistrate Rosa Lina Salinas.

Slogan Adopted for Lordsburg East Sign and Local Agenda

Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce and City Council chose a slogan for the new 10 by 40 foot sign at the east end. The primer coat is applied, a scale drawing is being prepared and a sign painter will be hired in about a week.

It was learned late this week that Senator Pete Domenici is scheduled to be in Lordsburg August 6. A reception for the Senator is in the planning stage.

Lordsburg Receives $16 500 in Federal Wastewater Funds

Lordsburg will receive $16 500 from federal funds as part of $6.32 million approved for New Mexico wastewater construction for the year ending June 30. John Wright of the state water quality division credited EPA Region 6 head John C. White for expediting review to avoid loss of funds.

The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce board of directors will meet Monday at 7 30 in the Chamber office. Members and non members are invited to attend.

Melvin D Webb 43 of Lordsburg faced arraignment in Hidalgo County Court on agg rev battery and assault with intent to commit a violent felony for the June 21 stabbing of Herbert Stacey on Railroad Avenue. Bond $10 000 on each charge, trial set September 4.
