Funeral services for Ben Goor man Dugan who died July 3 1969 in Vietnam from ship collision injuries were held in Heather Chapel on July 17. Survivors include his parents three sisters two grandmothers and numerous aunts and uncles. Pallbearers were from the Navy Department at White Sands and the firing squad from Ft. Bliss. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery.

Purge Board Removes 590 Names From Voting Records
The Hidalgo County Purge Board purged about 550 to 590 names from the voting rolls under the new state election code. County Clerk Emma J. Scofield says notices went out before July 15 with Sept 15, 1969 as the purge effective date after the 60 day response window. Names of deceased or felons or those who did not vote in November 1968 were removed. others must update addresses or names at the county clerk’s office. Board members Burke Stiles, Victor Reay, and James McBride led the purge.

Lordsburg School Board Seeks Bond Plan After Failure
The Lordsburg board of education, led by Superintendent Carl McMillan, names Kern Smith of Carlsbad to design plans and sites for a new elementary school. A $725,000 bond failed last February, triggering state requirements and temporary portable classrooms at Wilson School. The board also targets high school parking upgrades, space dividers for a multipurpose study hall, gym repairs at Central School, and lighting improvements with limited funds. Bids for paint and materials go to Ritter Lambert, H Bishop, and Lopez to paint lunchroom and other areas.

James T. Wells of Lordsburg was elected President of the Lordsburg Hidalgo Library board at the annual directors meeting held Monday July 14. Mrs Bethel Fuller resigned after serving since 1928 and as president for several years. the board noted her 41 years of service and library growth from a small club offshoot to a county library with over 10 000 volumes and an annual circulation of 17 000.
