SP Seeks To Operate Sunset Passenger Trains Tri-Weekly
Southern Pacific petitions the Interstate Commerce Commission to approve tri weekly operation of the Sunset trains from Los Angeles to New Orleans via Lordsburg. If approved westbound trains would start Monday Wednesday and Friday from New Orleans and eastbound from Los Angeles on Sunday Tuesday and Friday. The line would restore diner lounge and sleeping car service on the full 2033 mile route as it existed on the New Orleans El Paso segment on Jan 19 1966. SP cites reduced service losses while maintaining patronage and notes the 1968 Sunset deficit of 2 455 000 and a 1969 four month shortfall of 1 195 009.

Katheryn Thomson Dies at Age 6 in Denver Hospital
Funeral services were held for Katheryn Thomson six at Wheeler Mortuary in Deming on Thursday July 17. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Thomson of Deming she died July 13 in Children's Hospital Denver Colorado. Burial followed in Deming Cemetery.

Battery Charges Filed Against Joe Rodriguez
Aggravated battery charges were filed against Joe Rodriguez in connection with a shooting that injured Rodolfo Chavez Jr. last Friday. Rodriguez posted a $2,000 bond at arraignment before Magistrate C.L. Brown. Chavez was shot in the upper leg near the hip. the injury was not serious.

Mrs. Ruby Jeanes urges dues payment to reach the goal before the National Convention August 26-28 in Atlanta. If the quota is met by August 10, a donation is made in memory of Elmer Jeanes.

Car Truck Crash Injures Four Near Port of Entry
Four people were injured in a Wednesday morning crash on the highway near the port of entry east of town. Harold E. Jackson of Gleason Tennessee and passengers Mrs. Jackson Raymond Radford of Dresden Tennessee suffered the worst injuries after their car struck a left turning truck driven by Arthur Junior Bryant of Dallas Texas. Police report Bryant was cited for an improper left turn and due care failure. All patients were moved to Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso after treatment at Hidalgo General Hospital.
