Lordsburg Drops Water Tank Suit in 4-1 City Vote

The Lordsburg City Council voted 4-1 to drop a $500,000 damage lawsuit filed May 1 in Hidalgo District Court against William Matotan and Associates Inc. of Albuquerque and Chicago Bridge and Iron Co. of Chicago over the 1974 2.5 million gallon water tank collapse.

Voters approve two mill property levy in Lordsburg district

Voters in the Lordsburg School District narrowly approved a two mill property tax levy by 132 to 111. The levy will be matched by state funds under Senate Bill Nine and funds capital improvements such as a new field, parking, fencing, and renovations. The levy begins for the 1975 fiscal year and lasts one year with allocation details to be set later by officials.

Courthouse Closure on Independence Day

The courthouse will close Friday July 4 in observance of Independence Day affecting court operations and public access.

Lordsburg Moves Debris to New Sanitary Landfill

Mayor Warren White says the city of Lordsburg has stopped open burning of garbage since July 1 and is burying waste in a sanitary landfill just north of the old dump. The new site fence is complete and operations will shift there in about 30 days, all in compliance with state landfill rules.

A U S border patrol official from El Paso downplays immediate effect of a Supreme Court ruling restricting stops and searches of vehicles near the Mexican border. Deputy Chief Dale Swancutt said changes will wait on legal analysis and federal court interpretations across districts.
