Gay's Sales and Ser vere becomes a partnership

Partnership formed effective July 1 1947 with a halt interest purchased by R S Dockum. The new firm continues as Gay's in Lordsburg. Dockum, born Corsicana Texas, served as POW camp guard and Camp Adjutant during the war, moved to Lordsburg after discharge and now joins the local business scene. Residents enjoyed a safe July 4 holiday with Knights of Pythias picnic, barbeque, races, baseball games and numerous out of town motor trips to Arizona and New Mexico spots. Legion dance at La Fiesta club drew many dancers and the Railroad club also hosted a dance.

Mrs Sara Simpson Celebrates 91st Birthday party

Mrs Sara Simpson celebrated her 91st birthday with a July 3 party at Mrs Emma Taylor’s home attended by about fifty-six guests. The event featured chicken sandwiches potato salad iced tea fruit salad a large cake and punch. Her son Capt W A Simpson of Phelps Dodge Copper Refinery El Paso joined the celebration and later took his mother to Duncan in his new car.

On Wednesday night July 2 Banner Mine de fe defeated El Paso Natural Gas 22 to 3 in a high scoring game with fireworks. A defective ball caused trouble and one El Paso player was ejected. Veterans were to play Leo s but weather postponed to July 16. Thursday night the Veterans beat the Plumbers 15 to 9.

George Harding Accepts Position Here

George Harding of Lebanon Tennessee moves to Lordsburg to become sales manager of the Motor Sales Company there. His wife Virginia Arnold and two sons are already in Lordsburg. He is a Nashville native, attended Cumberland University, worked four and a half years at Lebanon Woolen Mills, and now leads payroll and shipping. He has been active in civic affairs with Kiwanis roles and Red Cross service.
