Lordsburg School Board Approves Teacher Contracts and Bids
At the regular meeting Dr. Joel Price proposed 82 83 contracts for Gail Jones, Sharon Jensen, Connie Perez, and J Her zog along with ongoing non certified staff. The board raised cafeteria and high middle elementary meal prices and approved bids for two activity buses from Western Bus Sales and Smith Ford plus a 1983 van from Miller Chevrolet. Insurance bids were opened with A W Pollard and Insurance Exchange as low bidders. Sale of two 1965 buses and a 1976 station wagon went to Smith Ford. Board also opened bids for air conditioners lockers and computers and reviewed urethane roof coating bids from Utah Foam Product Co including a diesel electric compressor, which was rejected for further review.

Ballinger Granted New Trial in Uecker Murder Case
Gene Ballinger convicted of second degree murder in the Warren Uecker death near Pine Cienega Ranch, Mule Creek, July 22, 1980, has won a new trial from the New Mexico Court of Appeals. Ballinger, free on appeal, has lived in Florida. The reversal cites handling of witness John Rizzo’s testimony. Rizzo, once immunity granted, was the prosecution’s lead witness and may be cross examined in the new trial, though his immunity may remain. Attorneys Asa Kelly and Jerry Lockett represented Ballinger. DA Ralph Ellinwood plans Supreme Court review.

Phelps Dodge will start one reverberatory furnace at the Douglas Reduction Works in Douglas, Arizona by July 14, resuming after repairs to Hidalgo smelter in New Mexico.
