A Columbia University team led by Dr. Frank Findlow surveys Hidalgo County to study internal structures of larger Indian settlements. They select random townships, lay 20 meter transects, collect artifacts within three minute squares, and note site and transect numbers for later assembly. Pieces found are mostly small pottery and stone fragments as many large sites have been destroyed.

Youngster Killed In Accident Near Rodeo New Mexico
Russell Wayne Burris a six year old boy died in a freak accident near Rodeo New Mexico while riding on a truck driven by his father Russell Burris. He was struck by an A frame mounted on the truck and pronounced dead at 11 34 a m July 1 by Dr J H Baxter. The incident occurred near the grandparents farm Mr and Mrs Harry Turner of Rodeo. The boy s parents are Mr and Mrs Russell Burris of Mesa Arizona.

Aguilera Arraigned In Lordsburg Fatal Shooting
Alvina B. Aguilera, 39, of Lordsburg, arraigned on open murder charge in the June 30 shooting death of Mary F. Clark. The incident at 4 46 a.m. left Clark dead at the scene. Clark’s husband Joe Clark was in protective custody after the shooting as detectives, with Lordsburg police and state police, investigated and a murder warrant was issued July 2.
