Lumber continues Little League play this week with a 1 1 record on Monday night. Radio defeated Powell 7 1 in the night cap while Miners scored their first win. As of Monday June 30 Lumber 4 1 .800 Shell 2 2 .667 Radio 3 2 .600 Mine 1 4 .200.
Swan Unit No 30 and the Swan Auxiliary at The American Legion hold a Monday evening gathering at the Legion Hall. A report from the Department convention held last week will be presented.
Mrs R K George and family were honored at a home gathering on Wednesday after a prayer service at R Baptist Church. The event included an ice cream social and goodbyes as relatives and friends traveled to bid them farewell in California. Badgett and Tex connections noted with relatives and visiting Brunner party.
Lordsburg residents and businesses are urged by the Robert Swan American Legion Auxiliary Unit No 30 Americanism chairman to display the flag on Friday July 4. The notice emphasizes showing patriotism through flag display on Independence Day.
The municipal pool will open at 3 p.m. on July 4 and stay open until regular closing time. Regular hours are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with Sunday opening at 1:30 p.m. Night swimming is available Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. The facility is closed on Mondays.
Since July 4th will be observed as a holiday some will have guests and others will be visiting out of town the Liberal will appreciate receiving these items by phone or mail.
Roddenberry of Yuma plans to install a vegetable processing plant in Lordsburg this fall. He helped spark local vegetable growing by partnering with the Animas Valley Growers Assn to cultivate 400 acres of lettuce, and local talks seek to expand Cienaga Lake into a recreation area.
Revival services start Friday July 1 at the First Baptist Church and run through Sunday July 20 with Rev. Philip McGahey of Arlington Texas as evangelist. McGahey formerly pastored in Breckenridge Albuquerque Alice and San Angelo and helped secure Glorieta as the West Southern Baptist Assembly site. The project cost three and a half million dollars so far with more to spend. He is a graduate of Wayland College and Baylor University. All are invited to attend.
The Rev. James C. Merwin, a California evangelist, opened a revival at the Assembly of God Church on July 1 and will run through July 13. Merwin will show colored slides and films of his evangelistic work in foreign countries. Pastor Dale B. Webb invites the public to attend.
Mr and Mrs Frank Winters spent several days in El Paso this week visiting her niece and husband.
Frank Ballard 25 of Morenci Arizona was arrested after erratic driving on Highway 70 near Lordsburg. Witnesses and a station owner tried to stop him before he fled, later linked to a crash injuring Ursula Gleason and her two children. Ballard pleaded not guilty to DWI and guilty to reckless driving, fined $105 and held on the DWI count.
Volunteer firefighters responded shortly before 2 p.m on Wednesday to the Biltmore Motel garage where material in a metal barrel exploded. Soda ash stored nearby scattered through the area while a few pieces of building material smoldered. damage was limited to the mess caused by the blast.
STATE COLLEGE N M A monthly high school science bulletin will be issued by New Mexico A&M College starting in September. The four page bulletin will cover experiments across agr iculture biology chemistry engineering geology mathematics physics and psychology. Dr Jack A Soules of physics will edit with Dr Richard L Barrett and Dr Eugene Staffeldt on the editorial board.
Ground Observer Corps was alerted on Monday July 30 by the Tucson Filter Center. Observers on duty from 7 30 a m to 9 p m included Mrs Simpkins Mrs Ed Wright Mrs John Robertson Mrs C C Fuller Mrs Robert Tibbs Mrs Thelma Ross Miss Ima Fairly Glenn Dorsett and Johnny Elms. All GOC posts are on stand by since January 1.
The Valley View Presbyterian Church votes to move morning worship to 9 a.m. for July. Sunday School remains at 10 a.m. The new schedule starts Sunday July 6.
The MYF group at First Methodist Church hosts an ice cream social on July 7 from 5 to 7 30 pm in the church undercroft. Jackie Fuller serves as chairwoman with Sandy Dunkerson as co chair in charge of arrangements.
