Army Pvt Axton Resting in Duncan Cemetery Monday
The body of Private Bayies Axton was brought to Duncan Arizona for graveside services Monday at 10 a.m. under the American Legion and Heath mortuary. Pallbearers were local classmates. Axton, born August 12 1921 in Clifton Arizona, died in action in Germany April 9 1945 serving with Company F 254th Infantry 4th Battalion 1st Regiment. He is survived by wife Catherine Mary Brannon Axton daughter Ray his parents and four brothers.

Four local youths held on assault charge
Four youths aged 19 to 22 remain jailed on $5000 bonds after allegedly beating Mrs. Lynn Jackson, a 40 year old grandmother, on Saturday night June 18. At a preliminary hearing Judge William McKinney heard a confession from one suspect and implicated the others Frank Lopez Isaac Esparza Margo Hernandez and Alfredo Rentaria. Witnesses testified they heard Mrs Jackson beg for mercy and Rodolfo Guadiana helped deter the attack before it could worsen.

J. A. Foster, Hidalgo County Savings Bond Committee chairman, reports total E Bonds sales from June 1 to 23 plus May 28 figures reach $17,118.75, exceeding the county quota of $27,000 by $7,956.25 or 129 percent. Hidalgo becomes the ninth county to pass its goal, following Bernalillo, Grant, Guadalupe, Harding, Otero, Rio Arriba, San Juan, and Union.
