Drive Starts This Week In Hidalgo County

Fundraising drive begins in Hidalgo County to meet a county quota for cancer research. Volunteers encourage donations via mail to the American Society or through County Chair Robinson at his home, Ritter-Walker Co., or through a local coworker.

The American Legion and Auxiliary invite members and friends to the annual joint installation at the Legion Hall on Wednesday July 13 at 7 00 p m. A pot luck supper precedes the installation with talks by representatives who attended Boy and Girl States.

Road Program Adopted by Hidalgo County Board

Hidalgo County residents saw adoption of a county road program by the Hidalgo Road Board. Ed H. Hitson presided as representatives from districts set priorities for Fed-Aid Secondary Roads and farm-to-market projects. Planned routes include Highway 70 to Deming and Lordsburg and to Duncan Arizona, plus routes to Douglas and Silver City. Construction aims to begin in 1950 with surface grading and drainage, subject to state approval. The present Animas highway may be abandoned once Cloverdale road is completed. a new road map will be published.

Junior Woman's Club Hosts Formal Summer Dance

Lordsburgs Junior Legion club meets Deming Junior Legion at 1:00 p m Sunday on the local diamond in a seven inning set. Admission for this Legion game is free with hat passes for equipment funds. The Moctezuma Indians defeated Cananea 6 3 and the locals lost 12 3 at Clifton on July 4.

Dist. Judge A. W. Marshall sentenced Francisco Lopez Isaac Esparza Margarito Hernandez and Alfredo Tortillas Renteria to 59 to 60 years each after they pleaded guilty to assaulting Mrs. Lynn Jackson on June 18 in the penitentiary case.
