Herbert Saucedo was chosen as the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Citizen of the Year at the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce Banquet. Harold Bishop, first recipient in 1965, praised Saucedo as a longtime community helper who leads projects, works quietly, listens, serves, and embodies exemplary conduct.
Voters in Lordsburg will face contests in Wards one and three as incumbents and challengers file for four year terms. Ward two and Ward four appear uncontested with Walter Oliver Jr. and Frank Orona Jr. not seeking reelection.
Southwest New Mexico counties plan a warm welcome for 40 outsiders entering from Arizona at Rodeo on Sunday February 8. Wagons from Hawaii California and Arizona join the caravan as it travels toward Valley Forge to rendezvous with other wagons on July 4. The procession will cover about 600 miles and reach Lordsburg Hidalgo County with planned events including a barbecue and an art show.
Lordsburg officials explain gas rates have not increased, only colder weather raises bills. City administrator Wilson Conover notes rates unchanged since September and lists current charges for different usage levels. City Clerk Lupe Rivera cites heavy December call volume and explains higher heating needs drive the spike.
