River Dams Hold At Red Rock Bridge With Detour In Place

River remains high at Red Rock but bridge holds amid heavy rains. Previous floods washed out the crossing. a bucket system was once used to shuttle people. This year the detour route avoids the damaged road while the bus for Lordsburg School picks up north of the bridge. Phil DeFoor and Vance Lee inspected and approved the detour for the driver.

Rosie Rhoades Celebrates 100th Birthday

Rosie Rhoades marked her 100th birthday at Fort Bayard Medical Center on January 15. Born January 15, 1893 in Chickasha Nation Oklahoma, she moved to Lordsburg in 1908. She married Edward J. Rhoades. they had four children, with relatives in Santa Fe Oklahoma and Lordsburg. Nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren attend.

Open House Spotlighting Lordsburg Adult Literacy Program

An open house to spotlight the adult literacy program in Lordsburg is set for Friday February 5 from 10 a m to 2 p m at 300 13th Street. Voters in the Lordsburg and Animas districts vote Tuesday to elect board members and renew the 2 mill levy for school improvements, a levy approved since 1975. Hidalgo County Chooses Site for Landfill Debate

County Commissioners held two special meetings focused on selecting a site for a new landfill. One option lies north of the Southern Pacific tracks near the dry lake bed west of Lordsburg, with a potential $150,000 public crossing cost and crossing arms required.

Saturday services at the Animas Ward LDS Church for Ilene Gardner Richardson 42 of Cotton City followed her death Thursday. Born July 20 1950 in Mesa AZ she was a member of Animas Ward LDS Church. Hidalgo County Pioneer Passes Away In Phoenix

Daniel B. Dunagan age 80, a pioneer of Animal Valley, died in Phoenix on January 21. Born April 9, 1912 to Stephen and Delilah Dunagan, he helped homestead the 44 Ranch now part of Gray Ranch with grandparents and siblings. Survived by wife Effie of Blythe, two sons Daniel R. Dunagan and Douglas E. Dunagan, sister Mary E. Tyler, and many grandchildren and nephews.
