Guilty Plea Moves Flores to State Prison
Jesus C. Flores Jr 24 of Lordsburg was taken to Santa Fe to begin a 2 to 5 year sentence for unlawful possession of marijuana after pleading guilty before Justice C L Brown. Flores was arrested January 8 and bound over to district court for sentencing.

Longtime Lordsburg nurse Heather Heather dies after illness
Heather Heather a Lordsburg resident for 22 years died Saturday at Hidalgo County Hospital after a long illness. Born February 12 1893 in Bumcombe County near Asheville North Carolina she trained as a nurse in Chattanooga and worked in rural Kentucky before moving to Lordsburg and serving at Hidalgo County Hospital. She was a member of the First Methodist Church American Legion Auxiliary Pythian Sisters and WSCS. Survivors include three stepchildren and a sister with burial at Mountain View Cemetery.

Lordsburg National Guard Unit Tops in Technical Inspection
The Lordsburg Unit of the New Mexico National Guard was rated tops in the state after a three week old technical inspection by the State Maintenance Shop. Of 16 categories, the unit received 13 superior, one excellent and two satisfactory ratings under Captain Jesus Estrada and Sergeants Clemente Bassa and Page Wilder.

Mavericks Schedule Two Home Games After Flu Outbreak

Local Legion Post Receives Citations
Robert Swan Post No. 30 received two special citations for membership at the mid winter conference of The American Legion and Auxiliary held in Albuquerque. One citation was for reaching quota for 1960 before November 11 and the other for meeting a pledge of two thirds of the quota before January 1. Mrs. Elmer Jeanes led the parade as representative of the local Auxiliary for being the first unit in the state to reach quota for 1960. Jesus Estrada and Elmer and Mrs. Jeanes received individual awards as membership getters.
