Lordsburg City Council fixed March 5 at 5 p.m. as the deadline to file candidacy for the April 5 city election. Mayor Alan Koff also reported on the Municipal League gathering in Deming, denying specific mention of Lordsburg in derogatory remarks. The council approved transferring liquor license control for Short Motels, Inc. from 212 E Railroad Ave to 527 E Railroad Ave pending state approval.

Junior Class Enchilada Supper to Aid Prom Fund
The Junior Class plans an enchilada supper at the Junior High Cafeteria on Friday February 12 from 5 30 to 7 00 p m. They seek funds for the Junior Senior Prom and banquet in the spring. All-State Music Clinic Held Jan. 28
The 16th annual All-State Music Clinic sponsored by the New Mexico Music Educators' Association took place January 28 29 and 30 on the University of New Mexico campus. Audition bands choirs and orchestras included members from 45 cities with Lordsburg represented in the 220 member all-state band and chorus. Directors were Dr. Paul Van Bodegraven Dr. Charles C. Hirt and Dr. Stanley Chapple. Transportation for Lordsburg students was provided by Mrs. Lawrence Gay Mr. Frank Bowman and Mr. Roger Brandt. Mountain States Telephone Company manager Ross attributes Lordsburg’s 1959 growth to new homes and more calls. He notes a 114 new telephones in the year, a 500 percent increase from 1958, with state totals up to 23 530 telephones. Local calls rose in step with the broader rise in service.
