Lordsburg Snowstorm Delights Hidalgo County Residents

Homeward bound residents woke to an inch of snow on January 20 1978 in Hidalgo County and Lordsburg with mountain flurries reaching six inches. Schools closed early as roads iced over and snowmen sprouted in the town with over 150 appearing by 4 p.m. Friday. By Saturday temperatures climbed to the low 60s and the snow melted, leaving a lasting memory of a rare winter event.

New Doctor to Arrive at Hidalgo General Clinic by March

Hidalgo General Hospital Administrator Sara Callaway said Doctor Jacinto Lopez from New York will move to the area and begin work in approximately three weeks. The clinic will use Casa de Medicina under County Commission control. The hospital plans to seek immediate recertification once Dr. Lopez opens, following prior closures and illness among staff. Emergency services have continued via volunteers and paramedics.

Retired Lordsburg Educator Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Burke Stiles, a retired Lordsburg educator with 38 years in the field, was voted into the NEA NM Southwest District Hall of Fame at the district meeting in T or C on Saturday January 14. Nominated by Lordsburg Education Association, he will receive a commemorative plaque at the Southwest District Spring Convention in Las Cruces on March 11.

Police Check Robbery At Local Motel

Robert McDonald, 23, an employee at Myers Motel and Restaurant, reported a robbery at 2 a.m. Tuesday January 17. He was struck in the back office, knocked out, then found his wallet lighter and seven dollars missing. Investigators say about 2600 dollars vanished from the office desk, including 100 in credit card sales, with cash missing from two registers in the restaurant and motel office.
