Dance Theatre Proceeds Benefit March of Dimes

Mrs. Frank Hill announced the Children s Dance Theatre will stage a program at the Junior High School on Saturday February 4 at 7 30 pm. Proceeds go to the March of Dimes. The same program will be presented by the PTA at Animal School on February 2 at 7 30 pm.

Lordsburg High Band and Chorus Headed to Albuquerque

Twelve Lordsburg High School musicians travel to Albuquerque for the All State Band and Chorus events. Students earn spots in All State Concert Band and Clinic Band and Chorus, competing with New Mexico peers. renom director Dr Frederick Fennell leads concert band. Ithaca College director Craig oversees chorus. Event runs January 28 29 30 at the University of New Mexico.

Mike Martinez Found Dead in Bed Sunday

Mike Martinez was found dead in bed Sunday morning in a north side apartment. A coroner's jury attributed death to unknown natural causes and indicated he may have been dead 10 to 12 hours before discovery. He had lived alone in Lordsburg after coming from Maximij Durango Mexico and worked in Red Rock before settling here two years ago. Family members could not be located.

Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber Opens New Offices

The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce will hold Open House in its new offices beside the post office on February 6 and 7. Mrs Frank Sowman leads refreshments with wives of directors assisting, serving coffee punch and cookies from 10 to 12 and 1 to 5. Secretary manager Marguerite Codding extends blanket invitations to all.

Long Time Local Resident Buried Tuesday Morning

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Floy Dorrance 79 long time Lordsburg resident were held Tuesday at 10 a m at Heather Chapel with Reverend Gene Rutter officiating. She died Saturday morning at Watts Clinic after hip fracture and pneumonia. Born May 14 1881 in Clarence Missouri she taught in Missouri worked for Swift & Co later in El Paso met husband John M. Dorrance. She moved to Lordsburg in 1980 and worked at First National Bank and then owned an insurance agency while and with her husband ran Ownby Hotel. Survivors include brothers Miles L Thompson and Albert F Thompson. Pallbearers listed. burial Mountain View Cemetery beside her husband.

March of Dimes Coffee Sunday Raises $33

The second in a series of coffee fundraisers for the New March of Dimes was hosted Sunday afternoon at Mrs. Elmer Jeanes home. Co hosts Mrs. Bearl Dunkerson and Mrs. W F Winters led twenty five guests who donated $33 to the charity with additional gifts from those unable to attend.
