Forest Service Funds Disbursed to New Mexico, Arizona Counties
The U S Forest Service distributed 7,771,367 to counties in New Mexico and Arizona as their 2S per cent share of National Forest income for the fiscal year ending Sept 30. Payments come from timber, grazing, recreation, minerals and other sources and support public schools and roads. Southwestern New Mexico counties received 1,234,184 of the state 2,892,293 share, allocated to Grant 173,354 Catron 98,618 Hidalgo 1,502 and Sierra 71,710.

Kennecott Plans $280 Million Santa Rita Mill
Kennecott Copper Corporation plans a 280 million concentrator at Santa Rita in Grant County to modernize the China Mines Division. Centennial Queen Contest crowns winners at Lordsburg event
A January 21 Lordsburg Centennial Queen Contest drew a capacity crowd at the school cafetorium. Contestants in three age groups performed talent numbers and answered questions. Winners were Felicia Gomez Miss Future, Yvette Koebke Miss Present, and Ena Mitchell Miss Past with runners-up named in each category. Entertainment was provided by Carol Bryan and the Dugan Tarango Middle School Chorus.
