Great Merlining Magic Comes to Lordsburg Stage

Lordsburg Lions Club hosts the Great Merlin and his wife in a three night cat stage show of hypnotism and magic on February 4 5 and 6. Merlin direct from Hollywood tours the country using volunteers for feats of hypnotism. Tickets sold in advance for February 4 at Lordsburg High School band members. other two nights at the door.

Lordsburg Considers Televisor Translator Project

City officials weigh a television translator to serve three networks with an estimated cost between 10 000 and 11 000 dollars. Funding would come from a cigarette tax fund pending attorney general approval. About 600 TV sets exist in town, with a $20 per set subscription proposed to pre fund installation.

Lordsburg Men Injured in Gallup Tank Truck Collision

Two Lordsburg men Tony Morrison and his son and E Morrison were in the truck when it skid on an icy highway and struck a bus. The crash near Gallup killed two passengers and injured 22 others. Morrison suffered a broken leg while Frank Morrison had minor injuries.

Polio Drive Profits and Shots in Lordsburg

Dr J H Baxter donated time to the March of Dimes drive in Lordsburg giving 64 Salk vaccine shots to adults and children over the past Saturdays. The effort raised 124 dollars though Baxter hoped for more participation.

Indians and Panthers edge Mavericks in weekend tilt

The Cobra Indians rallied from behind to beat the Mavericks 51-48 after a close game. Lordsburg led 10 at Q1 and 36 30 at halftime, then Cobre outscored the Mavericks 21 to 12 in the final period. Bill Barnes topped Maverick scoring with 17, Arredondo added 10, Lonnie Nally debuted with 6, Huerta led Cobre with 12 and Garcia had 10.

A&M College Plans Cotton Farm Day Program

Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce announces Cotton Farm Day in Lordsburg on February 8 with New Mexico A and M College providing activities led by Ed Hitson county agent and Mrs Eva Thomas county home demonstration agent. Johnnie Johnson chairs the committee with Leo Cohen Bill Michaels Howard Lunt Carl Lehman Ed Hitson Robert Flickinger and Harold Bishop planning a full day for farmers and families. Noon meal will be served to attendees and tour prizes follow registration at 9 a.m. on February 6.

Location For GOC Post Discussed At Meeting

Interest shown at a Ground Observer Corps meeting at City Hall last Thursday night in Lordsburg spurred plans for a GOC post. M/Sgt Carter from the Air Force Tucson Filter Center outlined GOC actions on film. Mrs Scherling reported a petition with over 300 signatures to the City Council. Carter said training for observers would run five consecutive evenings once the post is organized.

Basil O Connor, president of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, told a Chicago luncheon the March of Dimes still needs funds and cautioned against thinking polio is conquered. He stressed there are at least 60 000 old polio patients needing aid while efforts continue toward prevention with a vaccine.

Highway Meeting Slated For Silver City January 28

A Silver City meeting on January 28 aims to push the paving of State Highway 180 across the Black Range.
