Lordsburg High Charter Sets NHS Group and Members

Lordsburg High School received a National Honor Society charter with a new chapter and constitution. Selection criteria include a B average and leadership, character, and service. membership capped at 15 percent of seniors, 10 percent of juniors, and 5 percent of sophomores. Installed members include Mary Louise Chavez and Glenna Shumway with several others named. Darry Deaton was absent.

Elks Warn Youths About Moscow Festival Propaganda

Lordsburg Elks Lodge No. 1813 warns school officials and youth groups against a Soviet backed Youth Festival in Moscow next summer. Exalted ruler Andrew Fallat says the Sixteenth Annual Festival of Youth and Students is a communist ploy to subvert American youth and push world conquest. He cites the World Federation of Democratic Youth as a Soviet propaganda front and urges parents to seek the facts.

Lordsburg District School Election Set For Feb 5

The Lordsburg District votes next Tuesday Feb 5 to elect two 6 year school board members. Three candidates Mrs Robert Harwood Mrs J S Culberson and Manuel S Ramirez vie for the two seats with polling at City Hall from 8 am to 7 pm. All registered voters in District No 1 are urged to vote and choose two of the three candidates.
