Lions Club Presents Merlin Escape Arts Tour

Lordsburg Lions Club schedules a three night show February 4 5 and 6 at 7 30 with Merlin an escape artist. Proceeds from the first night go to the high school band profits from the rest aid the club. A second event July 9 features Sinoff with violin at the high school auditorium.

Knights of Pythias Install New Officers At Lodge Meeting

Stiles was installed as acellor commander of the lodge at a regular meeting Tuesday. Robbie Robinson and other officers took oaths, including Les Harvell Jesse Austin Orlie Mond Russell Smith Homer Ks Fay Powell Leo Cohen Glen Dorsett. The incoming chancellor spoke after the ceremony.

Legislature previews sessions and committee work reported

A weekend preview notes activity in the New Mexico Legislature with 66 members, previews on Jan focusing on committee assignments. The 32 member Senate completes its organization with Edwin L. Mechem announcing two new appointees to the State Highway Commission, Forrest Sley and Cornman, plus other charter members from Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.

Homer Brooks Named Heart Fund Chairman in Lordsburg

New Mexico Heart Association president Field Robinson names Homer Brooks as chairman of the 1957 Heart fund drive in Lordsburg. Brooks will organize volunteers for a house to house Heart Sunday appeal and brief district captains to raise funds. The Heart Fund kicks off February 1 with a statewide campaign ending in late March.

Dr Baxter to offer polio shots for MOD drive

Dr J H Baxter resumes the Shots for Polio program this Saturday morning January 19 from 9 30 to noon. The service is free with donations in a door pot benefiting the March of Dimes. No age limit or order of shots applies and waiting is minimized.

Lordsburg Scoutorama Preparations Nearing Event

Lordsburg Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts ready for Scoutorama set for Thursday January 31 at 7 15 p m in the Elks Hall on Second Street. Patrols and dens compete for prizes in demonstrations handicraft displays honor badges awarded at the Court of Honor with merit badges and Arrow points. Judges to be announced next week.

Sue McCarty Improves After Illness In Clinton Arkansas

Sue McCarty a county hospital nurse's aide in Clinton Arkansas has been slowly improving in the hospital after becoming seriously ill Sunday night while at a show. Her father and mother left for Little Rock Monday and there is no diagnosis yet. Mr and Mrs George Staub and daughter Karen visited Silver City over the weekend with their son George Jr and Mrs Staub.

Tragic Highway 20 Crash Claims Life In Fayetteville

A 1954 GMC truck driven by James Moore and a 1955 Ford from Samuel Glanbin collided near the Chief Theatre on Highway 20 at 4:36 am. One man died, another injured. Moore survived, and Herbert M. Robinson sustained severe injuries. Police say truck transmission failed causing the accident. James Wells of Cannanea, Mexico, visiting his mother, is mentioned in passing.

Bobby Clark Receives New Iron Lung From Foundation

Bobby Clark son of Mr and Mrs Robert Clark of Lordsburg who has spent years in an iron lung received a new unit loaned by the Grant County Polio Foundation. The replacement arrived after a pressure gauge failed and was delivered by truck to the Clark home in Lords bury. The nine lungs used by Bobby have all been supplied free of charge by the National Foundation for Polio and are replaced and repaired at no cost as long as needed.

Mavericks Edge Bears in Lopsided Victory

Lordsburg led from tip to buzzer as Bill Barnes scored 20 points and helped the Mavericks build a 55 32 win over the Animal Ghosts. Nick Ruiz and John Ruiz added 10 each while B Veck led the visitors with 12 points.
