Former Pastor To Speak At Methodist Church

Dr. Bryan Hall former pastor of The First Methodist Church from 1936 to 1940 will speak at the church Sunday January 21 during morning worship. He is executive Secretary of the New Mexico Annual Conference Board of Education and has served as pastor in Deming Las Vegas and for years as manager of the Methodist Camp. After worship he will travel to Silver City to take part in opening services for the new educational building at First Methodist Church there.

Taco Supper Planned by Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Port No. 30 auxiliary will host a taco supper Monday night January 22 at the remodeled Legion Hall. Enchiladas will be served and plates cost one dollar. Proceeds support the building fund.

School Finances Explained To Faculty And Citizens

Jin Green of the New Mexico Education Assn. visited a high school meeting to explain rising school costs. He cited population growth 38.6 percent and enrollment increases of 60 percent in high schools and elementary schools over ten years, plus demand for math science and languages and services for handicapped children. He noted a budget increase of 1.35 million this year versus 8 million in 1960 61 and that tax money funded 258 per pupil with only 135 per pupil for about 10 000 new pupils, spreading funds thin.

Heaviest Snowfall Since 1949 Hits Lordsburg

Lordsburg recorded 10 to 11 inches of snow through Saturday night, the largest single day total since January 1949. Wet snow produced 1.45 inches of moisture, freezing pipes and water tanks, while the Lordsburg Ice Plant suffered over $1,000 in condenser damage.

4-H Club Awards Presented Monday Night

One hundred thirty 4-H members, leaders, parents and friends gathered Monday night at the Elks Hall for the Annual 4-H Awards Night. County Council President Leroy McCarty presided as Linda Payne spoke on her National 4-H Congress trip and Farrell Lines shared slides on Turkey. The event marked the first year plaques were awarded to organizations and individuals supporting 4-H.
