BPW Wome n Federation urged action on 1957 platform

Mrs. Oliver Frear of Clovis president of the New Mexico State Federation of Business and Professional Women told members today in a special message that BPW members should back the federations vision and action program for 1957. Hazel Palmer national president is guiding 170000 members to push measures in the National Federation's 1957 Legislative Platform. The platform supports strengthening the United Nations and NATO and aiding international economic development through technical assistance.

Lion killed after sightings near Rodeo in Peloncillo Mountains

Bill Miller of Cross E Ranch south of Rodeo reports killing a mountain lion seen twice that week in the Peloncillo range. The big male, the largest Miller has encountered in two decades, was chased by dogs and driven from rocks about 400 yards from Miller before the hunt concluded.

Deming Wildcats edge Mavericks in double overtime thriller

In the New Mexico Western basket ball tournament opener at Silver City Deming outlasted Mavericks 53 51 after two overtimes. Bill Barnes led Deming with 19 points while John Ruiz and Higinio Molins added 24 and 13 respectively. Free throws decided the game as both teams hit 20 field goals.

Doctor offers polio shots to aid March of Dimes drive

On Saturday January 12 from 9 30 to 12 noon Dr J H Baxter will administer polio vaccines at his Hidalgo County office with no charge. A donation box at the door will collect contributions for the March of Dimes drive and all proceeds go to the local polio budget.

Eastern Star Installation Held Tuesday Evening

Lorc burg Chapter No. 21 of the Eastern Star held its annual installation of officers after a regular meeting. New officers included Worthy Matron Ethel Short and Worthy Patron Arnold Jayne, with honors for outgoing leaders Cora Kirby and Peter Chase and a poem titled Me Mother read by Mrs. Bishoy. Refreshments followed.

Chief Of Police Sanchez Reports On City Police Activities In 1956

Lordsburg police records for 1956 show 417 arrests or citations and 47 940 miles patrolled. The year includes 340 cases prosecuted in police and justice court, 135 traffic violations, 10 drunk driving incidents, 145 drunkenness, and 18 vagrancy cases. Property recovered totals 14 cars worth 20 000 dollars plus 1300 cash and 400 merchandise stolen in San Antonio Texas. Traffic accidents investigated within city limits number 14.

Lordsburg Sees Drought With Sparse 1956 Rainfall

Weather records show Lordsburg and Hidalgo County in 1956 had very dry conditions with only 5.17 inches of moisture. July brought the most rain at 1.81 inches and July 26 dropped 1.42 inches, causing a minor flood that damaged bridge approaches.
