Governor Edwin L Mechem proclaims January 15 to 21 as Farm Bureau Week praising the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau as the state's largest general farm ranch organization. Hidalgo County motorists could save over 28 275 yearly if the 1959 temporary one cent a gallon federal gasoline tax expires as scheduled on June 30 1961. Joe Palmer executive director of the New Mexico Petroleum Industries Committee notes New Mexico drivers burn about 940 gallons annually and calls for restoring the tax to three cents after July 1 1961 to prevent a larger road funding shift.
The Pyramid Lodge Knights of Pythias and Western Star Temple Pythian Sisters will hold a joint installation of officers at the Pythian Hall on Tuesday January 17 at 8 p.m. Herbert Amis announces the event with Past Grand Chancellor Frank Bowman as installing officer for the knights and Past Grand Chief Katherine Bowman for the sisters. Refreshments will follow. the public is invited.
