Report shows about 55 volunteers contributed to the Ground Observer post from September 3, 1957, to January 19, 1958. The tally notes one hour weekly, ten days weekly, six hours per day, with observers sometimes doubling or tripling coverage to meet mission needs.
Miss Sue Ann Freeburg was installed as Worthy Advisor of Lordsburg Assembly No 17 Rainbow for Girls at the Masonic Hall. The ceremony included officers, songs, and readings. Freeburg pledged to faith hope and love and dedicated her term to her family and church in a community ceremony continuing on page 6.

Governor Elwin L. Mechem has proclaimed January as March of Dimes month in New Mexico. The 1958 March of Dimes will fund new medical treatment and rehabilitation for polio handicapped persons and urged citizens to contribute to launch a new era of humanitarian achievement.
Hidalgo County officials delayed a decision on the hospital dispute after a closed door hearing. Nine speakers including Dr. Cohen and Mrs. Stubbs voiced concerns, as the board planned to reconvene next week. The morning session involved a briefing with the hospital board to review facts.
James F. McEuen of Houston Texas was instantly killed about 7 pm last night when struck by a car two and a half miles west of the junction of Animal Highway and Highway 80 He was hitch hiking in the road the driver did not see him until too late to miss him The deceased was a World War II veteran.
The Virden Extension Club gave 12 to buy a selection of adult books and the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority donated 50 to purchase books. The library bought both adult and juvenile titles along with two men dictionaries. The board thanks both organizations.
The Rev Roy L Smith of La Jolla California will conduct a series of meetings at First Methodist Church starting January 26 He was ordained in 1908 and retired from administrative duties in 1952 His pastoral work spanned Kansas Illinois Minnesota California including the large First Methodist in Los Angeles He was named among the countrys six most representative Methodist preachers in 1926 and one of ten most effective Protestant preachers in 1942.
The 1958 Hidalgo County March of Dimes drive opens in January to fund polio patient comebacks. County chairman Dick Rice announces committees including Treasurer Harber Heather and Posters Joe Woody, with roles in school activities, coffee days, coin collectors, public publicity and more.
Mrs. J. Cloyd Miller and Dr. Gladys Bookman of Silver City were dinner guests of Mrs. C. B. Austin on Thursday.
