Mrs Mary Eddy Resigns as CPS Company Cashier

Mrs Mary Eddy resigned from her post as cashier at the Community Public Service Company after a year and a half of service. Don Johnson Lordsburg manager announced that a successor has not yet been chosen. Eddy is the former Mary McDaniel, daughter of Arch and Mrs McDaniel of Red Rock.

Lions May Foster Club at Virden

Harold E Scofield and Eugene Romney were named on a committee to contact interested parties at Virden with the aim of organizing a Lions Club there. The announcement came from Lions President C B Austin at a noon luncheon at the Woman's Club Building. Dr J H Baxter reported on a successful March of Dimes basketball game and announced another game. Two new members, C M Steele and Henry Ellison, were received by the club.

Lawrence Gay Opens Appliance Store On West Railroad Ave

Lawrence Gay starts Gay's Sales and Service on West Railroad Avenue offering Philco Maytag Chambers Ranges Servel Mission heaters and Juezzi water systems for home irrigation and plant use. He previously ran Lordsburg Lumber and Building Supply, now operated by H O Johnson who also runs Bowie Lumber and has 14 years in building supply. Johnson will stock building supplies and plumbing items.

Kerr-Morgan Agency Opens In Lordsburg

Jack Morgan and Earle Kerr form the Kerr-Morgan Agency to take over the Reynolds tax service and insurance business. They also start Arrow Finance Co. Morgan served as out of state auditor for New Mexico school tax division, Kerr as director of the same division.

United States Steel's Theatre Guild on the Air airs Sundays at 8 p m on four New Mexico ABC stations KTRC Santa Fe KFUN Las Vegas KGAK Gallup KOAT Albuquerque. The January 5 program co starred Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in The Great Adventure and officially opened the new station.

Worthy Cause Promotes Polio Fight Beneath Night Dance

Supporters plan two charity balls in Lordsburg at the Railroad Club and La Fiesta Club to raise funds for polio research and treatment. The event aligns with nationwide efforts February dances and the March of Dimes legacy started with Franklin D Roosevelt who faced polio at Warm Springs Georgia. Last year’s polio outbreak was the worst since 1916, affecting thousands of homes, as donors are urged to contribute.

Mrs Gray Resigns After Eleven Years at Local Post Office

Mrs Josephine Gray has resigned her clerk position after 11 years service at the post office. Postmaster Gene Montague announced she joined the staff in April 1935. Her husband Louie Gray works for Southern Pacific between Lordsburg and El Paso as brakeman and extra conductor. Bobby Williams, son of Mr and Mrs C M Williams of Lordsburg, has joined the post office and was previously a sub clerk at Silver City.

Mrs. Van Meter Named President of W. S. C. S. Group

The W. S. C. S. of the Methodist Church installed officers for the new year at the home of Mrs. John Bradford. Officers include Mrs. Isaac Van Meter as president and Mrs. Donald Johnson as vice president, with others named to treasurer study course and devotions. A secretary will be named later. Chuck Taylor Clinic To Demonstrate Basketball Techniques

Chuck Taylor, renowned basketball authority, will hold a free clinic at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the High School. The event will describe demonstrate and picture modern basketball technique before coaches and players from the area. Taylor, a veteran of the Navy and Army Air Forces, coached the Wright Field Kittyhawks and has run clinics since 1923 with broad influence.

Yucca Motor Company Named Reo Dealer

The Yucca Motor Company on East Railroad Avenue has been named the authorized Reo Trucks dealer for Lordsburg. O. M. Jones, owner, announced after receiving a 1947 Reo Truck this week. The firm opened last Oct 1 after purchasing the property in April and now offers 76 gasoline and oils.

Vasons and OES Install Officers in Joint Rites

The Lordsburg Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star held a joint installation at the Masonic Temple on December 27. Peter M. Chase served as installing officer and Sam H. Lordsburg Sees Historic Cold Snap With Eight Degree Low

The town records a record low eight degrees on January 5 amid one of Lordsburg's coldest periods. Traffic accidents were frequent but minor, schedules stayed largely intact with some Texas delays, and livestock weathered the cold though cattle were pulled down slightly. W. H. Walter of Animas was elected chairman of Hidalgo County Commissioners Court at the initial regular session. Other commissioners attending were Hyrum Pace of Virden and Lee Smith of Lordsburg. Mrs. Rachel Atkinson serves as county clerk and board clerk.
