Payne Is New Commission Chairman
Lloyd Payne a former Hidalgo County Commissioner was elected at the initial meeting as Chairman of the Board of Commissions. Roy Hatch discussed landfill bids for fencing at Rodeo Cotton City and Animas and noted the pit must grow to hold waste for one to two years. Presently Animas Cotton City Playas Rodeo and Virden use the landfill. Hatch said trash from Hatchita is being dumped into the site and tires will shorten capacity. The commission approved resolutions and a contract as year’s first actions and set public meeting rules and agenda deadlines.

Lordsburg School Board Election Discussed At Meeting
The school board discussed the upcoming Lordsburg Board election with two seats in Ward 5 and Helen Allred unopposed in Ward 4. The Capital Improvements Act also on February 2 would fund repairs, equipment, and upgrades to district schools with no new tax and no interest costs. A 1976 levy continues to provide about 111,300 annually, and information will be mailed and discussed door to door. An audit by the Department of Education found minor discrepancies, now cleared, seen as a positive for record integrity.

Lordsburg Mavericks 1973 State Champions will be introduced after Saturday’s third place game at 6 30 PM during the Kelly Saucedo Maverick Stampede.
