Star of Lordsburg Lights Christmas Holiday Spectacle

Residents of Lordsburg enjoyed a 52 foot star on Christmas Eve and night, illuminated by 500 lights. The display near the water tank was built by the Knights of Pythias and volunteers, with Harvey Lang, Jimmy McCants, Virgil Mayberry, Judge Ed Cramer, Bob Allred, and others contributing. Cars lined the hill as viewers shared hot coffee and burritos while admiring the towering beacon.

Larry Nichols Wins Pinnacle Trophy in Gem Cutting

Larry Nichols of Road Fork wins top honors in the 1992 U S Gem Cutting Evaluations. He competed among 208 entries from top American gem cutters and will be featured in American Gem Cutter Magazine. The Pinnacle Trophy-Contemporary Sculptor will be awarded in mid January.

The Fifth Annual Renegade Ride ends in Shakespeare Friday while a Mini Mav Clinic is set for April 29 and Chris Dimas wins first in a Savings Bond Poster Contest. Lions Club Broom Sale, Border Authority meeting in Lordsburg, and a Barry McWilliams cartoon exhibit at Central School are noted along with Lordsburg High School track placing second in Reserve.

Arthur L. Doc Myers 87 former Lordsburg resident died December 21 after an extended illness at Norman Regional Hospital Oklahoma. Visitation at McMahons Funeral Home Nobel and here Monday until 2 PM service at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Woyd Stewart officiating. Interment Mountain View Cemetery. Born January 22 1905 in a covered wagon on Concho River Water Valley Texas. Worked as a cowboy in Bootheel area of Southwest New Mexico. Married Annie Bednorz June 30 1930 Lordsburg. Owned Doc's Feed and Fuel 1941 1946. Married Ethel Lacy Stone July 22 1950. With brother Floyd owned Border Drilling Company 1950 1955. Moved to Nobel 1990 to be near family. Survived by wife Ethel son Art Myers Jr and Doris Nobel 4 grandchildren 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in NM and AZ. Preceded by parents two brothers and three sisters. Pallbearers listed. honorary bears named. Baca's Funeral Chapels Deming in charge of arrangements.
