The Lordsburg Internment Camp reports on personal hobbies as a path to happiness and self improvement. Mentions visiting dignitaries Lt Bond and Lt Erisman heading to California, and returns of Lt and Mrs Jack and Col Baker after leaves.
Host Col. Louis A Ledbetter and Mrs James Parker opened the party at the officers club while Tex Trown and his band played. Enlisted men danced in the recreation hall with Dave Mazzola and his band performing. A 30 second moment of silence for fighting boys followed a grand march led by Col Ledbetter and Mrs Parker.
Mrs W L Ackerman hosted a lovely mid day luncheon at her home. Guests included Mesdames C E Castleberry Bryan Perrett Earl Leevey and daughter Mary Evelyn Leevey. Lt Marie Suit of the Station Hospital left January 4 for Camp Gruber Oklahoma where her husband Lt James D Hicks is stationed. The future plans of Lt Suit were uncertain upon her departure.
Mrs Hough steps in as exchange clerk in Pvt Hough's absence while a new band led by Sgt Dave Mazzola performs. The ensemble ranges from classical to modern swing with Edna Noble at piano and musicians Lewin Lemone Dede Hastings Reher.
Cpl Francis and the mimo graph machine entertain the boys at camp while Meisel and the teletype and others move through orders. Woechter visits, Nastase delays enroute, Hill files requests, payroll talks with de la Torre, and the postal section under Sgt Jones delivers mail amid long witness lists.
The Red Cross Sewing Day moves to Thursday at the Woman's Club building. Workers are in high demand as the task is simple and requires no special sewing skills. Mrs. L. B. Robinson leads the sewing department.

Sheriff Oscar Allen and undersheriff Roy Kerr remain, new border deputy George Wright. County Clerk Marshall Fuller re elected, Mrs. Rachel Atkinson acting, deputies Mrs. Margo Fuller. County Treasurer Katy Hall re elected, deputy Mrs. P. M. Ewing. County Assessor Percy Brown, deputy Mrs. Mary Cureton Thompson new. Schools head Mary Lee Fairly re elected, no county commissioners. New officers include L. B. Wilkinson chair, R. H. Wamel, Robert Mortensen, Virden. Dallas Pankey reappointed janitor and jailer. County Agent Paul Hudson salary partly state funded. Freida Coffey chief clerk on vacation in Arkansas.
In Lordsburg New Mexico Allan Johnson ten son of Donald Johnson Lordsburg manager shot a 410 and brought in a daily limit of twelve quail six on the wing. The December Communicator notes Allan and his family hunting tales and praises CPS Co employees including Donald Johnson for their yearly hunting stories. Nora Conner New Mexico correspondent resigns to become deputy County Assessor of Grant County under Bartley McDonald.
Blas Noce and family received word from the War Department last weekend that Fausto Noce is held prisoner by Japanese forces.

The Ft Bliss Reception Center reports Jose Peralez Barcenar Aurelio Soliz Mejia of Lordsburg and Sven Oriel Thygerson of Virden have reported for induction. Orvill Webb departed Tuesday for the center.
An Army recruiting drive seeks 150000 WAACs with New Mexico quota 860 for the quarter ending March 31. Enlistment open to women 21 to 44 who meet mental and physical requirements, married or single with limited dependents, and willing to serve. Enlist today to relieve soldiers for combat service.

Mr and Mrs Frank Hindman marked Christmas as a holiday and the birthday of Mr Hindman. Clifton visitors Mr and Mrs J Swain and their son Frank Swain, now stationed in Hawaii, was promoted to aviation machinists mate second class and named shop foreman. Swain's cake was cut by Mr Hindman. Swain's son in law David Caye Estes has joined the Sea Bees and is at Camp Bradford Virginia for radio technician training.
An intensive beginn ing typewriting course for adults will be offered at Lordsburg High School if enough people register. Classes meet in the evenings, start soon, and tuition depends on enrollment. Interested individuals may contact Nokia Rector at Box 21 or visit the Hatfield apartment after 5 p.m.
Joe Sullivan, ill at the State Sanatorium in Socorro, asks friends to send cards or letters.
Former Senator Charles J. Hutchinson announced to the Chamber of Commerce that the Old Miner's Chest Mine will be expanded. The shaft will expand to three compartments to the 600-foot level, with a new hoist and steel ship, plus plans for a second shaft and air circulation system. High grade ore will ship to the smelter and a mill may be erected for lower grade ore. government and Bureau of Mines experts will assist in site selection and core drilling. Roads improvements and local industry support accompany the project.
The world famous Jap submarine, captured near Pearl Harbor, halted in Lordsburg New Mexico as part of a state tour. Governor Dempsey dispatched state police to escort the craft. crowds heard talks by Lt. C. BF. Jack and R. B. Ownby despite cold weather. Bond sales reached $1,500 with $356.06 in stamps.
The Junior American Auxiliary will meet next Wednesday at 6 p m at the home of Mrs Tom Mayfield.

Lt. L H Smith and Lt. Claude C Dove of the Army Recruiting and Induction Service met in Lordsburg to form a committee of Women's Clubs to aid WAAC recruitment. The committee includes Mesdames Scofield Poindexter Messecar and Clark. WAAC officer Lillian Bajar will visit next week to supply folders and forms for applicants.
Hidalgo county names Postmaster Eugene Montague as chairman for the tenth annual President's Birthday Ball to benefit the Infantile Paralysis Fund. The event, at La Fiesta with a good orchestra, aims to boost state and national support and has consistently proven beneficial to afflicted children.
The USO dance on Wednesday night drew about 26 attendees and was enjoyed by all. Adjutant Gloeser opened with games from Deming while Leo Cohen was absent in El Paso. A second pool table was awaiting repair and a new ping pong table was added downstairs. Coffee cookies and candy bars plus rum were offered for sale.
A watch party gathered at the Baptist Church rooms with about 50 attendees. A dinner was served and games were played, and caroly were sung.
Mr and Mrs W H Shillito once of Lordsburg now Las Cruces have learned from the War Department that their son Sgt Winston H Shillito is a prisoner of the Japanese somewhere in the Philippines.
Mrs. Tommie Martin, longtime Hidalgo Grill staffer, wed 1st Sgt Joe Schweigert at Las Cruces on Monday. Rev C A Ridge officiated with Maid of Honor Pauline Leach and Best Man Sgt Wyman Greenway. The couple had stayed in El Paso with hosts J W Pence before the nuptials.
The Rainbow Assembly initiated Miss Edith Bray into the Order during a Friday evening meeting preceded by a pot luck dinner. After the assembly closed, guests of Mrs Karl Hardin arrived with gifts.
