New Year Party At Lordsburg Camp With Officers and Enlisted Men

Host Col. Louis A Ledbetter and Mrs James Parker opened the party at the officers club while Tex Trown and his band played. Enlisted men danced in the recreation hall with Dave Mazzola and his band performing. A 30 second moment of silence for fighting boys followed a grand march led by Col Ledbetter and Mrs Parker.

Mrs Ackerman Hosts Midday Luncheon Guests

Lt Marie Suit of the Station Hospital left January 4 for Camp Gruber Oklahoma where her husband Lt James D Hicks is stationed. The future plans of Lt Suit were uncertain upon her departure.

Old Miner's Chest Mine To Be Opened In Big Way

Former Senator Charles J. Hutchinson announced to the Chamber of Commerce that the Old Miner's Chest Mine will be expanded. The shaft will expand to three compartments to the 600-foot level, with a new hoist and steel ship, plus plans for a second shaft and air circulation system. High grade ore will ship to the smelter and a mill may be erected for lower grade ore. government and Bureau of Mines experts will assist in site selection and core drilling. Roads improvements and local industry support accompany the project.

Lordsburg Welcomes Jap Submarine Tour Amid Snow

The world famous Jap submarine, captured near Pearl Harbor, halted in Lordsburg New Mexico as part of a state tour. Governor Dempsey dispatched state police to escort the craft. crowds heard talks by Lt. C. BF. Jack and R. B. Ownby despite cold weather. Bond sales reached $1,500 with $356.06 in stamps.

WAAC Recruiting Push in Lordsburg Forming Local Committee

Lt. L H Smith and Lt. Claude C Dove of the Army Recruiting and Induction Service met in Lordsburg to form a committee of Women's Clubs to aid WAAC recruitment. President's Birthday Ball set for La Fiesta January

Hidalgo county names Postmaster Eugene Montague as chairman for the tenth annual President's Birthday Ball to benefit the Infantile Paralysis Fund. The event, at La Fiesta with a good orchestra, aims to boost state and national support and has consistently proven beneficial to afflicted children.

USO Dance Well Attended by Local Servicemen

The USO dance on Wednesday night drew about 26 attendees and was enjoyed by all. Adjutant Gloeser opened with games from Deming while Leo Cohen was absent in El Paso. A second pool table was awaiting repair and a new ping pong table was added downstairs. Coffee cookies and candy bars plus rum were offered for sale.
