Man Found Dead Of Asphyxiation In Lordsburg Trailer
Paul Austin Yates 36 was found dead on a bed in a South Lordsburg house trailer at 193% Ash St last Friday around 8 30 pm. A justice court jury ruled death by asphyxiation with a gas stove damper partially closed. Investigators say death could have occurred 24 hours earlier or more. Yates resided in Deming but used the trailer as a rest site between TIME truck lines runs. He was married and a father of one. TIME employees discovered the body after failing to reach him for a truck run.

Uresti Found Guilty on Child Sexual Assault Count
George Hector Uresti was found guilty of sexual assault on a child under 13 on August 26 1966 after a day long trial before Judge Edward F Triviz in Las Cruces. He was acquitted on a second count and ordered to state hospital for evaluation before sentencing.

The council organized Christmas baskets for needy families and thanked local merchants for donations including Leo’s Variety Store Lehman’s Pearl’s Jewelry Amin’s and others. Andy Gonzales was named January citizen of the month for his roles in football basketball National Honor Society and student activities.

Lordsburg Police Chief Gains Official Status
The New Mexico attorney general ruled that Lordsburgs police chief C L Rogers has the status of a legally appointed official even though his initial appointment was temporary. Mayor Alan Koff said the council approved the temporary appointment, and Assistant Attorney General James Noble noted the municipal code has no provision for temporary posts. Alderman Jesus Estrada said the council was not informed the opinion was being sought and believed the matter had been settled.

Alamogordo Wins a Tight Invitational Tournament
Alamogordo captured the B team invitational with a 64 63 final over Cobre. Bakers 19 and Jenkins 13 led Alamogordo while Porras 12 Soto 12 topped Cobre along with Delk 19. Lordsburg finished third after beating Deming 51 41 and Jaime Tarango led the Mavericks with 15 points.
