New Registration For Doctors And Dentists on Jan 15 1951

Colonel Charlton announces the January 15 1951 registration for dentists physicians and veterinarians under 50 in priorities 3 and 4 of Public Law 779. Those in priorities 1 2 who missed October 6 1950 also register then between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM at local board offices except Bernalillo County where registration is at the American Legion Hall 207 North 2nd St Albuquerque. Contact local Selective Service Board for details.

Chamber of Commerce Directors Set to Elect Leaders

The Chamber of Commerce announces a regular meeting on January 15 to elect a president and vice president from the board and appoint a secretary treasurer for the coming year. A year end activity report will be presented to members. The Lions club board meeting is rescheduled for tonight at Hotel Hidalgo.

The Lordsburg Mavericks host Hurley here Friday January 5 with the B team at 7 and the A team around 8 20. Officials are Moon Mullins Las Cruces and Glen Moses Deming.

First Rainfall Since Oct 9 Brings Light South West Rain

The New Year began with a brief rainfall totaling .22 inches Sunday night Dec 31. A light frost followed, with ground snow and intermittent precipitation through New Year's Day. Lordsburg Hidalgo county had little moisture since Sept 1 1950 after a heavy rain and sand storm. Weather records note 82 of an inch in mid September and 25 inches on Oct 9. Running water is touted as the poultry farm's biggest labor saver.

At the January 1 1951 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners at the Court House Antone Thygerson Ethel W Richins and George F E Pendleton were sworn in as the new board The outgoing commissioners Pace Smith and Walter turned over county property and retired The new board met January 2 drew lots to name Thygerson chairman for 1951 They re appointed Still as County Road Supervisor Pankey as Court House Janitor The group inspected the Court House and Jail discussed county business and adjourned

1950 Income Tax Returns Now at Banks and Post Offices

Steven P. Vidal, collector for the District of New Mexico, announces that Federal income tax returns for 1950 will be available at all banks in the state as well as post offices and county assessor offices. Taxpayers may obtain forms locally instead of writing to the Albuquerque IRS office.

Travel Over Local Highways Increased Over November

Jack Summer chief inspector at the Road Forks checking station reports 560 out of state cars and 150 trucks moving toward Lordsburg in 24 hours on December 29 1950. The count rose 172 cars from November 24 while trucks fell by 10, indicating cold northern weather driving cross country travelers to the southern routes free of snow and ice.

Lordsburg records 1950 events including Caesar Brock's commission by Governor Mabro, a $33 604 sewage contract, new motels on highways 7 80, radio and hotel changes, a 70 member Pistol and Rifle club, and community improvements. Three local boxers to El Paso Golden Gloves, hospital equipment donated, Masonic building dedication, fatal auto accident, and a Mavericks win over Deming.

Snow White to Be Portrayed By Clelia in Local Show

Clelia will star as Snow White in the upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Lordsburg theater. A New England native from a theatrical family, she trained with Malatesta and Chaliff, starred in several operas, and earned praise as Alice in Wonderland. Hill Bermont directs and choreographs the production with a full professional cast and Clelia’s costume designs.
