Wounded To Suffer In Neglect Unless More Nurses Volunteer

Walter Lippmann argues Army nursing shortfall endangers recovery of wounded in hospitals at home and abroad. He cites rising casualties, nurse-to-patient ratios far below civilian standards, and a need for 60,000 nurses vs 41,500 present. Albuquerque Wins OPA Certificate for Car Mileage Cut

John D. Bingaman presented Mayor Clyde Tingley with an OPA certificate of merit for a 67 percent reduction in city owned car mileage during the first nine months of 1944. Albuquerque cut 290,482 miles versus 1941 figures. city cars ran 677,842 miles in 1941 and 387,410 miles in 1944.

Morel Volunteers to Be Recruited for Price Panels in NM

Mrs Eleanor Wald district OPA volunteer specialist launches statewide tour to recruit and train price panel assistants. District OPA Files Suits to Suspend Two Bars

The District OPA Office files two lawsuits in Colfax County District Court seeking suspensions of Beer sales at the Silver Dollar Bar in Raton and the Ranch Bar and Cafe in Cimarron for alleged sales above the price ceiling.

New Beer Regulations Aimed at Packaged Sales

State wholesale and retail beer dealers receive mailed regulations to standardize prices for packaged goods and lower them slightly. OPA Price Specialist Lawrence Lackey explained the rules to liquor dealer associations.

The notice lists changes to food and consumer ration stamps including Red Stamps Q5 to X5 valid through Book Four for meats fats with A8 to P5 cancelled Butter points rising from 20 to 24 per pound Blue Stamps X5 to G2 valid for processed foods with Blue A8 to W5 cancelled Sugar Stamps No 34 Book 4 valid for five pounds Nos 30 to 33 and home canning stamp 40 plus all home canning certificates issued by local boards cancelled Another sugar stamp will be validated February 1 Shoe Stamps Book Three airplane stamps 1 2 and 3 valid for one pair each of rationed shoes Gasoline Stamps A 14 coupons good for four gallons through March 21.

Promotions At Prisoner of War Camp In Lordsburg

Corporal Anton Griesser and Corporal Howard Stewart receive promotions at the Prisoner of War Camp in Lordsburg. Griesser, who joined the service in 1942, trained at Camp Pickett and served with the 79th Division before his current assignment in the Headquarters Detachment. Stewart, enlisting in 1944, trained at Camp Fannin and is likewise assigned to the Headquarters Detachment at the POW camp. Both are sons of Chicago residents listed in the notices.

Mary Eillen Jenkins daughter of Mrs Jessie Jenkins of Lordsburg arrives at Strother Field Kansas with the 72nd Fighter Wing Second Air Force. A Lordsburg High School graduate and former Santa Fe Railway employee she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps on April 30 in Savannah Georgia. At Strother Field she serves as an airplane mechanic on P 47 Thunderbolts used for fighter pilot training.

Apron Style Kit Bags Aid From Hidalgo Red Cross Chapter
