Beloved Pioneer Goes to His Eternal Reward
Beloved pioneer Brand Bramble Ownby dies after a long illness at age 87 on February 18, 1944. A Los Angeles native, he married Anna M. Salkeld in 1880, moved to Lordsburg New Mexico, joined the Church of Christ, Knights of Pythias, and served Hidalgo County as Commissioner and Probate Judge. He was mayor for two terms and his 63 years of marriage was a model of home happiness. Funeral at Church of Christ with Minister Percy F. Krewson preaching on Psalm 23.

On Wednesday at one oclock Mrs Ernest J Short wife of the mayor acted as denial hostess to Mrs John J Dempsey wife of Governor Dempsey at the Hidalgo Grill.
